Thought this might be a little too soft/poppy for my tastes at first listen but the hooks are absolute ear worms. Can't stop humming at least half of these songs.
Just wonderful. Drums sound killer which for me is always a big plus. For context, really enjoyed previous output but never was a dedicated fan. Gives me the advantage of not missing the earlier style as much. Huge growth otherwise.
Halfway through this thing. Oh MAN! It sounds like an amalgamation of every kind of 2000's emo band that I love. There's some raw Midwest emo vibes on this, but a healthy dose of pop punk, then some huge alternative rock choruses. Riffage everywhere. Terrific harmonies. I just want to go back in time and give this to 16-year-old me so he won't be sad again.
Tried really hard to get into this band when they toured with TWY a while back and just couldn't, but I'm digging this quite a bit.
Properly sat down with this today, very dense record. Will have to give it a few more spins to dig in but it's pretty great.
Bridge of Tell Me Why is hitting today. When that chord switch up happens at 2:05 it feels like the song is taking off like a damn rocket ship
I’m at the point where Counting Sheep is the promise of the future of the band. If they can write even one more song as huge as that one, they’re in for a long career. I am immensely enjoying the rest of the record, however they really cracked the code on that one. the staccato drum riff in the first verse of the song was probably one of my top 5 musical moments of last year
I think Some Girls might be my favorite on this album which is hard because Counting Sheep is just so damn good. The background harmonies in the chorus EUGHHHHH.
Sunder is awesome and that riff crushes but it’s totally ripping off Proper Home by mastersystem…I know I’m not the first to notice this or mention it. Not sure it really bothers me enough cuz I love both tracks the best on both of these albums. That mastersystem album is incredible and one of the best things Scott ever made in his short life.
My biggest qualm with the record is that while the music is super catchy, the vocals are kind of hard to understand. Maybe the most 36 year old thing I’ve ever said
I think Audrey Go Again and Head and Spine should be swapped in the tracklist…the fade-out at the end of Counting Sheep doesn’t flow well into AGA And AGA flows really well into Tell Me Why!
finally got around to listening to this. banger after banger. can't wait to blast this shit loud as hell this summer
If this gets people to hear mastersystem, that’s awesome! It’s ultimately a sad swan song for Scott Hutchison of Frightened Rabbit. Bird is bored of flying guts me every time
