I do think antman on a smaller scale works better. Not every superhero needs to be fighting “avenger level threats”.

If it’s not broke don’t fix it.

Def don’t see Marvel making a road trip film where there are no bad guys. Would be a cool setting for an Ant-Man film, however.

Never been a big fan of Scott biting the dust. Let him and Cassie live happily with him going into the sunset once Marvel wants to retire the character.

I had a blast with this. Another Marvel hit for me lol.

    Easily my favourite Ant Man.

This was okay. Felt like they just systematically removed all the stuff that made the first two Ant-Mans interesting. Still somehow better than Black Widow and Love and Thunder.

  6. Yeah I remember Janet saying something to him like "you just want revenge" or something. But the script really didn't do the character of Kang any favors here, none of his lines really hinted at his desire or motivation in a clear way like you did there. For me that sucked because Jonathan Majors was firing on all cylinders acting-wise but the dialogue and cast around him was so inferior he comes across as overacting.

I do hope Kang was made intentionally confusing, since even Scott didn't understand what truly happened by the end and in the mid-credits scene he's referred to as just "the banished one" so that excuses making this particular Kang vague.

The trailers did some mad false advertising here though, and not in the fun subverting kinda way, it made it seem like Kang was going to get Scott into a high-stakes moral conundrum and it was just... "I need to escape, get me the core or your daughter dies"

I saw this today and I really enjoyed it. All I typically ask for from these movies is an escape from shitty reality, and it provided.

If I had to critique anything, it would be that I wish they hadn't killed MODOK, as he could have been interesting as a frenemy.

I also agree that leaving Scott and Hope stranded could have made a good cliffhanger and a rescue could've been its own movie or a plot point for another movie, but it's not a big deal to me.

Loved the interactions between Scott and Cassie, love that Stature is officially part of the MCU, and Janet was a badass. Also love Hank's ants and that they were subtly foreshadowed from the beginning. I like payoffs like that.

    Ready for the next installment.

I also want to comment on what I feel is a genius move in taking Darren Cross, a character whose driving motive was his insecurity and need to be accepted and turn him into MODOK, a character that is nearly impossible to take seriously.

Had fun with this. Modok was the worst part. Definitely could have used more time before jumping into the Quantum Realm.

As someone who has the first two in the top tier MCU and also has loved everything MCU to date, I gotta say I was really disappointed in this. None of the humor worked for me. Hated that it wasn’t as grounded and self contained as the first two. Maybe I’ll like it better upon a rewatch now that I know what to expect.

On the other hand I did enjoy the acting from the main cast. And I guess it’s kind of cool that Scott was able to take on a big threat without needing the Avengers

I can’t help but feel like the movie would’ve been better if it leaned harder into one of the two tones it was harnessing.

Like, give me the Ant-Man fam in a glorious adventure in the weirdo Quantum Realm OR the table-setting Kang movie. Trying to do both hurt both.

Not an awful flick, but definitely far from my favorite of the MCU. Hoping great things for Kang.

I mean, there's really no place Luis would've fit in the narrative and made sense. Can you imagine him having one of those flashback conversations with Kang?

Luis could have popped up in the probability storm and made almost as much sense as Baskin Robins Scott showing up.

And why not have him be the comedy relief of the normal dude who got sucked in - rather than MODOK

Different versions of Scott showed up because he is Scott and was seeing the different possibilities of where his life could go. It wouldn’t make sense if he saw Luis there.

I would have liked a Luis + MODOK interaction, but I think the supporting characters are gone. Who knows if Scott even met them again after the Blip
