Just saw this. It was okay. Middle of the road of the MCU films I guess. Better than Thor 4 and Doctor Strange 2, but that’s not much to brag about.

Johnathan Majors is a good actor, but boy do I not care for Kang. A villain that constantly losses, but there are many of him is just annoying, not intimidating. The guy just lost to giant ants, Scott and Hope. The council of Kang was pretty dumb to see as well.

The lead up to Infinity War made me fear for the avengers, this does not.

Doc Strange 2 was good. I’ll die on this hill.

Yeah my friend and I discussed this after the movie. Felt like a weird disconnect between the levity of a Kang that has defeated multiple Avengers and conquered entire civilizations, to go out like that. And if he was the one that was exiled and it took a massive effort by multiple Kangs to do so, how threatening are all of the other versions?

Judging by the reaction of my pretty large crowd, there seemed to be a massive shrug to both the Council of Kangs and Victor Timely.

  5. Agree but "do you have ice cream?" was the best moment in this movie

I have no memory of that line. Not saying it’s not there. But it clearly wasn’t effective for me.

My theory based on recent rumors is that the Conqueror Kang isn’t really dead and he will come back as Beyonder with a personal agenda against the Avengers.

Kang Dynasty: Avengers fight multiple Kang variants and win. Ending on a high note unlike Infinity War.

Secret Wars: Conqueror Kang, who is now The Beyonder due to being kicked into the engine, will, out of hatred and revenge, deconstruct the multiverse and set up Battleworld to send the Avengers from different universes there and watch them fight to the death, which he will find more pleasurable than simply killing them himself.

Or maybe Marvel really did decide to one-and-done the Conqueror lmao

Seeing as we saw Darren returned from a semi similar ending, I wouldn’t be surprised if that happens. I kind of hope so. I think it would hold more weight if at least one Kang sticks around throughout the saga.

I’d also much prefer seeing a Kang that we’ve already been introduced to and has history with the heroes. Having a “surprise it’s new variant #205” as the big bad in Secret Wars wouldn’t make me care too much.

Exactly. And like, they pulled it off in Endgame using a different Thanos, IMO. But it did take a little out of it that it wasn’t the Thanos that caused all their suffering.

This makes sense as he was conquering to stop other Kangs and the incusions they were causing so he was exiled. This version returning to defeat them/takeover makes a lot of sense.

this was fine really. I'm on the team who finds the first 2 Ant Mans (Men?) quality dumb fun and a nice break from the super high stakes, so seeing that go here in favour of what felt like an Avengers.5 was a bummer

Majors was good, but felt like a looot of capital A Acting to offset the fact that this Kang is kinda bland in writing. his performance in Loki was so much more compelling with him barely having to raise his voice. also kinda funny his first two outings were both written by Rick and Morty writers lol, that's a choice

honestly Pfieffer gave the best performance here imo, nice to see her finally getting some time in the sun. her chemistry with Douglas is pretty good too. everyone else was.. fine enough. generally like Newton in stuff but she was boring or aggravating for most of this. also Dastalmachian was in the credits but I didn't see him anywhere in the movie?

oh and yeah MODOK was garbage, hated every single second of that. Bill Murray cameo was awful and a complete waste of time too. always like seeing Chidi but the generic ass quantum people were dumb. deeply okay movie on the whole

I would be fine with Marvel getting rid of their Rick & Morty writers. Not sure what episode Kevin watched but he was feeling a bit too optimistic.

  21. Was Kang's purpose or motivation really clear for anyone after watching this? Fo me it wasn't but I'm thinking that may have been intentional

He wanted to take over universes to prevent incursions that would lead to their destruction. He needed to overthrow the other Kangs for dominance and they kicked him out and he was banished to the Quantum Realm.

Not sure if this actually happened or if it’s a story he told to try to get others to see him as the good guy. He could just be evil or a major dick and that’s why he was banished. I find it rather too similar to Thanos trying to save the universe he was in. I’d like to see Kang be the Conqueror just because 1) he desires it 2) he has the means to accomplish it

Not every villain needs to be troubled soul looking to do what’s best.

Anyway, his goal in this film was to escape the Quantum Realm so he could get revenge on the Kangs that banished him and then continue taking over universes.

So it would seem everyone involved in making this film, uh, feels the same way as everyone else.

“I can't imagine where you [would go],” Ant-Man actor Paul Rudd tells Yahoo UK. “How do you get bigger? And where do you go from here?”

He pitches an idea that involves giving Scott Lang some downtime.

“[When] I think about it, it's like this regular guy who has no innate super ability whatsoever has now gone head-to-head with Thanos and Kang,” says Rudd. “I just feel like, cut the guy a break. Just let him sit on a beach somewhere. How much abuse can he take? How much punishment?”

He continues, “I do think this is a guy who really just wants to spend some time with his daughter. That would be nice. Maybe a nice quiet road movie. Just Scott and Cassie taking in a coastal city and just spending time [together]. Maybe like The Trip with [Steve] Coogan and just those where there's no threat. There's nothing wanting to kill them. I don't know if Marvel would want to make that movie but it would be fun to shoot.”

Cassie Lang actor Kathryn Newton, who makes her debut in the role in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, says she’d also be a fan of dialling it down for Ant-Man 4.

“I really like the down-to-earth Ant-Man. I loved Ant-Man and the Wasp. I like how they’re normal,” says Newton.

“Ant-Man, the original, is still my favourite,” adds Evangeline Lilly. “I think I would [dial Ant-Man 4 down] if I was the director, or the writer, or Kevin Feige.”

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania director, Peyton Reed, also thinks this is the way to go.

“I think you'd have to,” says Reed. “I think one of the things [you’d want] is ping-ponging back and forth [to and from the Quantum Realm]. It was really fun to create the Quantum Realm and all these sorts of characters.”

“I think there's more story to tell down there as well,” continues Reed. “But I also think that you can't lose sight of those family dynamics and the idea of this ‘street-level’ quality of Ant-Man, of the Wasp, in the first couple of movies.

"But the family dynamics, no matter where they are, that's the key thing. And particularly, I think that Scott-Cassie relationship.”
