For as important as The Snap seems to be (mentioned in also every project after Endgame) we haven’t seen much in terms of the actual time lost and the mental repercussions aside from Steve’s therapy group. I’m sure Coogler would have made a good examination of it but sadly his take just wasn’t meant to be filmed in the way he originally imagined. I’d love a Disney Plus show that solely focuses on it. At least let me feel the weight of The Snap that Marvel cares to mention in each project.

As for the other attempts to shine light on it, it seems the writers think a few lines of dialogue will suffice.

Dang it, Bobby, I’ll tell ya what…

Kang’s “win” response to Janet after she sees the memories of his multiversal destruction and asks him what he will do once he escapes is intimidating af

Majors plays it so menacingly confident. If he carries that dread throughout Kang Dynasty then he truly is one of the actors that’s single-handedly saving Marvel

This was incredibly bad. Just horrendous in every way.
It’s only saving grace is Majors out acting everyone without even trying

Thought it was pretty fun. Enjoyed it more than Love and Thunder at least. Majors rules

Honestly thought this was a blast. Definitely saw the Rick and Morty influence from Loveness, but a lot of the humor worked well for me regardless. I also went in with pretty low expectations which I think helped me enjoy it more. Definitely some rough patches/lulls but overall had a ton of fun. Majors as Kang is sinister and effective, and seeing more and more of him is what I am most excited about moving forward

Enjoyed this as much as most of the last batch of movies, another 7/10. I would die for the hole-obsessed alien. MODOK was rough but kinda funny too. Kang rocks.

Having slept on it, I’d still say it’s fine and mid MCU movie. But I think I am leaning towards not really liking it.

The Ant-Man movies had been pretty basic but fun movies. I wasn’t really having fun with this one.

The humor around MODOK fell flat for me and I think he looks terrible with the helmet off.

I think there was a solid family story buried under a ton of CGI sequences. Focusing on the Ant family more would have been better. I feel like we knew so little about Cassie. Would have liked more of her pre quantum realm. Hope was pretty much just there to stand around and occasionally shoot people. The Hank/Janet stuff worked for me, but wanted more. This does make the end of the last Ant-Man movie make no sense. If Janet was so triggered by the quantum realm, why was she just nonchalantly letting Scott go in at the end of that movie? Now in this movie the mere mention triggers her? That one is a bit nit picky, but it just occurred to me.

As for Scott, I liked him in here, my problem is more that the writers had two chances to have him sacrifice to save his family and they just immediately have him saved both times back to back. The MCU had finally retired some characters with Endgame but now everyone is bulletproof again. If there has to be an end eventually, what better end for Scott than to die to save his family? Have him stop Kang, dying in the process. The portal closes and Kang is trapped again. His family is safe, that’s all that mattered to Scott. But Hope saves him. Okay, I don’t want Scott to die, I want tragedy/drama though. So Hope comes in, saves Scott, but they are then trapped in the quantum realm. Maybe the next movie is their escape and we get to see them actually working together. We’ve mostly just seen Scott and Hope be antagonistic to each other for various reasons the last two films. They were apart the vast majority of this movie. A film focused on them either building a life in the QR or finding a way out could have been dope. But, then Cassie saves them in 30 seconds. Which, yes, was set up in the start of the movie, but is it too much to ask for to get some tragedy/drama?

There are other smaller things I could go on about. Kang was great, kind of a bummer that this Kang is gone now. Loki and Owen Wilson were cool to see. All the different Kangs was weird, but it’s just a mid credit scene, so whatever.

Not the worst of the MCU and I think there was potential for a much more powerful meaningful story.

I did want more of a Scott/Cassie storyline with some fall out of the snap. Huge missed opportunity

The vibe I got from the trailer was Scott was mourning the time lost with Cassie during The Snap and Kang was offering a way to get that time back. I guess I was kind of fantasy booking the plot, but that seems way more interesting than “Get me the thing or your daughter dies.” Like, the only thing we really learn about Cassie during The Snap is she’s big into the Quantum Realm, she’s into social justice and she’s been to jail twice.

It seems like a missed opportunity to make her the character caught in the middle and not go into the relationship between Scott and her (especially since it seemed like they had bigger plans with her since they re-cast the role with Newton.) Instead, she kind of seems like she’s stuck saying the “Well….that happened” kind of lines the entire time.

Huge agree with this. That was my thought as well. And Kang offers that to Janet, so to not use that to manipulate Scott feels weird. I don’t know if I posted it here or elsewhere, but Scott being manipulated to do something bad to regain time with his daughter feels right for the character. I didn’t go beyond that, but to have him realize his foolishness and die to protect her from Kang is way more engaging than “do it or she dies in front of you.”

I realize my longer post above sounds a little contradictory. I mention I didn’t have fun with this but also would have been pleased with Scott dying or him and Hope being trapped in the QR.

Where I’m coming from is that if you’re not gonna fully commit to a fun time for this one, then be willing to go for the real dramatic stuff you can do. That would have pulled me in more. But instead it’s not very fun and it feels like Kang didn’t destroy anyone of real substance. There isn’t any real consequence of their encounter with him. Face blasting dude is the only real casualty.

Okay, and the Baskin Robins Scott in the QR doesn’t make any sense to me. It seemed like he multiplied into possibilities, stemming from that moment. How would any of the Scott’s trapped in the QR trying to save Cassie be working at Baskin Robin’s? Maybe they realized having so many people in a mostly black suit isn’t that visually appealing and wanted to distract you with prettier colors.

Baskin Robbins isn’t doing product placement to not have their logo in a key scene.

What key scene was it in during the first one? I haven’t watched it in a bit, but isn’t it just in the beginning?

I don’t think they were looking for logical consistency, just “what would be funniest in this scene”

Not a key scene, but the "Baskin Robbins always finds out" line was probably one of the more referenced/memed things from the first movie (besides the Luis explanations scenes)

Did not like this much. Looking forward to see Majors with a more competent script/film, though.

Just give me Lang walking around for awhile, and I'd be happier with that movie.

Man, I didn’t hate the movie, but I’m sure it’s coming across that way. But the more I think about it, the more things I realize just don’t work for me.

So, Kang makes it a point to mention MODOK told him Scott was a thief. And from the trailers, I figured Kang would manipulate Scott into stealing something from maybe MODOK. That didn’t happen, of course. But, what does happen, doesn’t really require a thief. He just needed someone who could get through the glass looking stuff and a Pym particle to shrink it down. Scott didn’t have to steal anything. Seems like another wasted potential thing.

After sitting with the movie all day, not sure I’m really feeling Kang. No fault of the actor, but I just didn’t get that sense of dread from him, seemed very standard Marvel villian.

Scarlet Witch seemed MUCH more evil and menacing in MoM. Her just straight up murdering people on screen is way more intense than anything Kang does here.
