GOTG3 is good and will be the final breath of fresh air before heading into the blind stink cloud that is the next year or so of their releases. Maybe Loki S2, but I haven’t seen anything from it. Not sure the next decent release after Guardians has even been written yet.

i didn't really like this. so much of it is more or less a huge tee off to prop up kang (whose quite good, but not what the hype suggested, at least not yet.) i was at least nicely surprised by janet getting more to do, and i enjoyed a lot of the visuals as well. a lot of the other characters aren't given much of note. evangeline lilly is barely there at all, and the modok shit is fucking abysmal. it's not a TERRIBLE film but it does make a lot more cautious - at best - for everything going forward. i liked it a little more than ant man 2, fwiw

I hope I don't hate this. I've liked the first 2 Ant-Man movies more than a lot of other MCU movies

Just had to explain this to someone on Reddit. When I say this is a low 70s movie then it’s of the same quality of other movies that are in the low 70s. Doesn’t matter how the score gets there. This movie isn’t deserving of having an aggregate score of 50%, which will be the big score that most people look for when they judge a film by skimming RT.

This film is better than having nearly 50% of critics dislike it. Does spelling it out like that make it better?

Loved this. Easily my favorite Ant-Man. World was really cool. Scott/Cassie relationship was really good and holy cow Kang was menacing. Great start to his arc.

It’s best to kinda forget about the other two while watching this. Quantumania is pretty much a 180° in terms of how the first two films look and feel.

And Winter Solider is good. I’d put it in my top 10 but Iron Man, Shang-Chi, and Black Panther would be placed before it if we’re strictly speaking solo films.

On some days I’d even put The First Avenger in my top 10.

This is about as middle of the road movie for a superhero whose movies have been pretty middle of the road. Great seeing Chidi. And the ants rule.

I love that Kang essentially lost to ants which is something people arguing about the ending are forgetting.

He didn’t lose to Ant-Man and the Wasp, he lost because of a gazillion year old ant civilization with technologically advanced weapons and…. that’s just magical in the best way.

Dialogue like this really took me out of the film.

I’d feel bad that The Wasp is basically a non entity in this. But also, Evangeline Lilly is a nut so it’s all good.

if half of critics didn’t like it, half of critics didn’t like it. It got the score it “deserves”

It's film. I subjectively disagree that it's deserving of that.

but RT is a score based on what critics click on when they file the review. That’s what the score is designed to measure. It got the score it “deserved” unless you think critics are lying and saying they didn’t like it when they actually did.

but I’ve been advocating people ignore RT forever so I don’t put much stock in it

I know it's an honest score based on the reception of the critics, I just disagree with so many critics disliking it to the point of labeling it rotten. Not that they are liars, I simply disagree with them artistically.

And, yeah, RT isn't much when it comes to the actual merit of films, but it still has great sway in public opinion.

I'm seeing this Saturday, and I just hope we can have at least two or three good pages of pleasant discussion before this thread devolves into a cesspool.
