Everything with Toros at the church was gold. I was dying. The cherry on top was him walking out before it's even over and apologizing to everyone. "Family emergency."
Okay I did Tangerine and The Florida Project. Liked tfp more but really enjoyed both. Tangerine is a Christmas movie too! I’d now go: Anora TFP Tangerine
Just finished watching Anora and yeah it's fucking brilliant and what an career defining performance by Mikey Madison, she has a big future ahead of her and to me in terms of betting odds.. she is the odds on favourite to win Best Actress at the Oscars if she gets nominated
My grandmother was from Brooklyn, and Anora's accent at some points sounded just like my grandma and that kinda freaked me out.
I have already seen multiple women say they're going to start putting sparkly tinsel in their hair because of this movie
A lot of people are saying this is too long but the shapelessness of some of Baker's films is a large part of the charm. It really makes you feel like you are living in the worlds he explores.
Something about the male gaze, and people think that because Anora doesn't have a backstory spelled out in exposition that makes her character shallow and lacking interiority, because apparently they don't know what subtext is.
