Premiering today, so stoked seeing Sparks there

 

Cannes in July is so confusing.

It makes sense that a Sparks movie would be polarizing and only made for like 5 people haha, but some people seem to love it and even the bad reviews make this sound intriguing

 

That bodes incredibly well for the film tbh

 

could not imagine a critic's take on this that i'd care about less than dave's

show me what Mr. slice says

 

I mean, he’s a massive Carax fan, I don’t take it as a great sign.

 

Dave is great but I don’t really care what anyone says about it until I see it

 

Gonna see it for Sparks

This was so fucking good. Wish it was a little weirder though

I watched this first thing this morning and thought about it all day, had to watch it again tonight. I think this was messy and outstanding, my current favorite thing this year.

So uh... what Carax should I seek out next? I know Holy Motors was on a bunch of decade lists recently but I know nothing else

 

He has only directed six features and they’re all worth seeing, although Pola X is a very ugly film and a tougher sell than the rest. Lovers on the Bridge is my personal favourite. The omnibus film Tokyo! (which also has segments directed by Bong Joon-ho and Michel Gondry) is very good too.

While I appreciated how self aware musical numbers were, the baby of my nightmares, and the incredible cinematography, this did not work for me. It does get me interested in watching more from Carax though.

Also shoutout to Henry McHenry for having the best name and dumbest name.

 

My least favorite Carax but there were some A+ sequences

 

Enjoyed a couple segments, especially at the end, but did not care for this at overall — chore to sit through.
