Yeah it's disappointing. Apparently some lines are changed too and Japanese writing has no subtitles but I'm happy it's on Netflix.
The fact that they apparently changed Shinji's "I'm so fucked up" line really irritates me honestly lol, they NAILED it with that line change in the original dub so to change it back and make it more tame is just, bah.
I get why it's annoying but at the same time the script is a lot closer interpretation of the Japanese script now than the original dub.
Alright yea, but homeboy is literally masterbating right over an unconscious girl's body. Like to have that happen and to get a whimpered "I'M THE LOWEST OF THE LOWS" is like....good lord
Oh, I wasn't aware, or maybe forgot, that this was gonna be different from the original English dub. Might have to watch it now.
I'm surprised so many people seem to watch the dub for Evangelion. That show is so Japanese it seems even stranger to watch dubbed.
The reason I watched Eva is because I had a coworker who lent me the original ass DVDs he had, and they were the dubbed ones. Normally I am subs all the way but I have exceptions, and in this case it was just what was presented to me. And honestly I ended up enjoying how.....endearing it was? Like it's not a high quality dub and that was back when dubbing was really not the way to go, and it had all these fresh faces who had not really voice acted before. It's just really weird but I really liked how weird it was. And again, there are some line changes that I VASTLY prefer when I went and looked at the Japanese subs after.
Both works honestly. Now, some people are not happy with the new dub and I understand their reasons but there’s also a lot of sentimental attachment to the original dub and honestly, it’s really not THAT different.
I ended up watching the first episode of the redub Honestly it's FINE (at least Shinji and Misato are so far) and new people should be ok but 1. pronouncing it NAIRV is fuckin weird especially when they say it multiple times in a short period and 2. I'm still not gonna forgive them for changing "I'm so fucked up". That's basically the one line that I think of the most when I think of Eva and the best representation of it.
Been a long time, so I might carve some time out to rewatch Eva. Will definitely do sub, but that's just always my preference for any show/movie.
i honestly would suggest first timers not watch this version of Eva. no Fly Me To The Moon, incredibly important lines changed, white text not subbed, etc. The only saving grace of it on netflix is the picture quality and directors cuts of episodes
Getting really into Attack on Titan now, finished My Hero Academia so guess im back into my anime fix. I absolutely suck at keeping up with the recent anime though. I hear Promised Neverland is meant to be top notch?
It is top notch. I think it suffers from being only 12 episodes but there will be a second season. Gave me mild Made In Abyss vibes.
I think it was only the first 2 volumes I read of TPN and they were intriguing, hate the short anime seasons though. Means a longer wait!
