If someone is just coming into the anime thread and they're wanting to talk about an anime that's currently airing and you give them spoilers from a manga for like two seasons later that hasn't even come out yet that's on you, not on them.

Yeah on the most literal level, this is called the “anime” thread lol. Not sure if there even is a manga thread (if there is then it must be dead comparatively) but I’d say we should assume that if we’re talking about the manga - especially if it’s one that has a big hit anime currently airing like JJK — we should not be expecting people here to have read ahead of the anime.

Indeed. I don't want people to not talk about the manga but maybe they could start a manga thread or just DM each other because I'm literally just watching each episode as it releases, maybe a week behind because lives happen and I shouldn't have to deal with spoilers for something that's just for fun.

  10. I'm anime only. I think it's only hinted at in the manga and ppl on tiktok are just being transphobic? Crunchyroll used they/them tho

Yeah so in the prior ep (and chapter 154) there's a single line in the scene where Megumi and Panda are talking -- Panda mentions Kirara's name, and Megumi responds like "Kirara? Isn't the other third-year a boy?" (indicating that "Kirara" is a traditionally female name and therefore likely not their name given at birth) and Panda says "yeah"

After that, every future mention of Kirara uses they/them pronouns. And while it's never depicted in the manga itself, Gege once released a drawing of what Kirara looked like when they were younger and they clearly look more like a generic cis teenage boy. You could find it easily enough just from google

Additionally (this is a very minor spoiler just about this one issue, so I wouldn't really consider it a spoiler at all except for the simple fact that it just hasn't been depicted yet), in a later scene, Hakari is riding in a ferris wheel with a male character, and he goes "Who'd want to ride a ferris wheel with a dude?" then the male character says "well you could've refused," and Hakari responds "I need to scope out this place in case I ever bring a babe." Given that he's obviously in a relationship with Kirara, it's pretty clear that he's making a joke about Kirara not being a cis male

This most recent ep had an incredible addition that wasn't in the manga (putting it in spoilers only for those who haven't watched the ep yet):

In the manga, Megumi simply finds the third star on the concrete parking block and touches it himself. But in the anime, Kirara cuts him off, so he cleverly throws a single rabbit to Panda, who from his angle is then able to throw the rabbit onto the parking block, and the rabbit lands with a perfect handstand.

MAPPA must really love how silly and versatile Megumi's Rabbit Escape shikigami is. That now-famous scene of all the rabbits attacking auto-kill-resurrected Toji in Shibuya was also an addition that wasn't in the anime at all loll

Watching His and Her Circumstances for the first time in maybe 20 years. The animation, editing, and soundtrack really hold up! Plus even though I love the manga it’s based on, I think the show being more comedy-focused was a great call

Would be interested in seeing a new anime adaptation that covers the entire Kare Kano story

  15. Scarlet was okay. not bad, but not as good as Belle, and shares some of the same flaws. while both films are visually stunning/interesting, they are weak conceptually/thematically. I loved the Digimon OVAs, The Girl who Leapt Through Time, Summer Wars, and Wolf Children. I haven't seen The Boy and the Beast or Mirai. There's a lot to love about Belle, it just falls apart in the third act as it tries to tackle something too big and too out of left field. Scarlet, on the other hand, just never comes together for me. Just a bunch of disparate parts that are cool on their own but lack a sort of emotional cohesion to really draw me into the story. I wanted to love Scarlet and empathize with her character growth, but for some reason I just couldn't. Mamoru Hosoda is still a great director, it's just that anything he writes himself doesn't seem to turn out quite as good.

Just realized that the Boruto manga is now approaching 10 years old. I do recommend reading it if you like Naruto but disliked the Boruto anime and all its filler. The canon material is very much a worthwhile sequel to Naruto

I looked up what was happening in Naruto at the 10yr mark and the volume that came out around then was where Killer Bee and Kisame had their fight following the Five Kage Summit. So just about everything after that in a ~4yr period was the final war arc

The most recent Boruto chapter came out and I don’t feel like I have the slightest idea how much is left or where exactly it’s going. It’s now been two years since the time jump to Two Blue Vortex and it really doesn’t feel like all that much has actually happened. It certainly seems to be taking a different path than an all-out-worldwide war, at least

I recommend everyone go see Kokuho (film) - Wikipedia

It is written by the scriptwriter who did Summer Wars and The Girl Who Leapt Through Time and is in theatres now.

The original run of Evangelion (or at least episodes 1-24, then End of Evangelion) is probably my favorite piece of media. I feel like Anno has said all he has to say about the series, but I also don't think I want to see Eva without him.

Cloverworks does good work, but I don't love what you can see of the design from the BRIEF teaser.

    I don't know how I feel lol

Seeing it's directed by guy who directed the final Rebuild movie and Gundam Quax, I'm expecting a lot of CGI and I'm considerably less interested.

If it helps, Anno was very much in support of the series becoming something that multiple people could put their stamp on.

Ever since I read the manga it's always felt like a kind of multiverse story with the same events reoccurring in different ways so I'm open to more, especially with those creatives working on it. I am definitely hoping for less CGI though, it definitely dampened my enthusiasm for the rebuilds despite still mostly loving them.

I absolutely love the first two seasons, but the third kind of lost me. Didn't love the new art direction, felt like the pacing was off as well. This is another different studio making this season, so definitely gona give it a shot
