Just dropping a note in this thread to say I've started watching Frieren, and as a relative noob to the medium I like it a lot. Feels like LOTR x Anime
Odd Taxi is pretty cool, I like it a lot and I think it's pretty worth watching. Not anywhere near as big of an investment as Monster too, which is nice.
fellow old man otaku here, may I intrest you in the wonderful world of 70's/80's OVA's and anime, feel like theres a lot more adult topics and less anime-isms that you dont like from modern anime, stand outs Id reccomend to a new anime fan are Akira - its basically THE required watching IMO when it comes to anime Vampire hunter D bloodlust - this is THE OVA that made me a studio MADHOUSE fan Mobile Suit Gundam 0079 (original series) - its a long running series but I believe that if your looking for a grounded war story look no furhter then this classic. theres also compliation movies with updated animation if the late 70's animation is too janky for you
I’ve never watched the Monster or Pluto anime, but I read all the manga. They’re masterpieces. The way he approaches manga is cinematic. I highly suggest getting his manga series 20th Century Boys. There’s not an anime of it, but it’s another mastuhpiece I could not put down.
is? like, right now??? oh wait i saw this bit in theaters already haha. i'll need to resub for subsequent eps tho ughhh
Yeah the first two eps of season 3 are out now. But I’m pretty sure it’s just what was covered in the movie
Sentenced to Be a Hero is the underdog of the season so far and it feels like it came outta nowhere. The first episode is an hour with movie quality animation. Good characters and interesting premise, especially the twist at the end. I’m really excited for episode two
I love that JJK has such significant stylistic changes from season to season. The first season feels like such a quaint generic shonen compared to the pit of hell that s3 Tokyo looks like
I just watched 100 Meters on Netflix. I don’t like sports anime, but I heard it’s worth it for the animation. It was stunning, especially one long race scene that lasted several minutes and took 10,000 hand drawn frames. It was insane.
just saw that hell's paradise has a second season that just started. maybe that'll help me get back into watching anime more consistently again.
i'm probs gonna resub to crunchyroll for jjk but i kinda don't wanna do so just for one show-- Spy x Family had its third season?? you guys need to tell me these things.
i should pace myself so that i don't finish the season too quickly-- and i'm done. dang it. back to waiting, i guess. and i'll probably miss when it comes out next time too
new spy family season was lowkey really good, had real good character moments and really funny bits mixed in, also... why not just sail the seas if youre only gonna get crunchyroll for 1 show
well given the manga's on hiatus rn and season 1 adpated like half of the available chapters were closing in on getting anime orignal content lol
I lied. I was gonna use this as an excuse to catch up on Frieren as well. I started it on CR and wanted to pick back up on Netflix but forgot where I left off. Never occurred to me that I could just look at my CR watch history
Getting back into anime, and don't know why I ever stopped. I grew up on 90's anime, Evangelion, Trigun, DBZ, Escaflowne, Serial Experiments Lain, etc...so I have so many choices now. Finished Death Note and Full Metal Alchemist, loved both. Any suggestions on what to check out next? I know Stein's Gate and Code Geass are popular and seem like something I'd be into.
Jujutsu Kaisen, Solo Leveling, and My Hero Academia are the three most popular shonens in years. You would like them if you like the action and characters of DBZ. Attack on Titan is my favorite anime ever. S-tier characters, world building, and music. Odd Taxi is my favorite that’s often overlooked. A 13 episode complete story. Sentenced to be a Hero is on now and episode two is on Thursday. It’s getting a ton of praise and I love it so far.
definitely watch code geass its an almost perfect show in my eyes imo, given the things you watched in the past these are a couple of stand out animes from the 20 years of anime youve missed 1. Gurren Laggen 2. Devilman Crybaby 3. Monster 4. Pluto 5. Gintama Honorable mention: any of the big 3 battle shounen (bleach, naruto, or one piece) that peak your interest. (imo I wouldnt reccomend any of them to ppl geting back into or want to get into anime, but ill prob get told Im crazy for not mentioning them)
I too watched all those anime's as a kid and fell off for a long time, and Steins;Gate was the show that got me hooked again. Can't recommend it enough, probably my second favorite anime after Evangelion.
