Just saw the Reze Arc movie and it was good but at the beginning when there were a number of more shonen-y humor type of moments and sound effects, I got real nervous that that tonal shift was going to persist throughout. Specifically Power’s over-exaggerated fear of being left with Makima instead of getting to hang out with Denji, and then Denji’s cartoonish reaction to seeing Makima in casual clothes Which really just gets to what I’ve always felt is a huge disconnect between a lot of the fans and the s1 anime. Like it seems as though a huge chunk of people expected the anime to have cutesy trope-y moments interspersed with the dark moments like in Demon Slayer or JJK when that kind of stuff has simply never been in CSM or any of Fujimoto’s work, and it’s all the better for it
I mean, the manga is goofy as hell even though it gets pretty bleak. The main character's only motivation is touching boobs in the first part. I didn't love the look of the first season, especially the CG. Like the show is hideous when Chainsaw Man is on screen which is absurd.
Except it isn’t “goofy” in the way that the typical shonen is. Like, Denji’s extremely superficial desires aren’t treated the same way as, say, Sanji in One Piece. It also isn’t even close to his only motivation in season 1 - he realizes about 3-4 episodes in that physical contact alone isn’t actually what he wants. Really the story as a whole is him gradually learning what it means to find satisfaction through real human connections The CGI wasn’t good at parts, but I think that’s a different thing from what a lot of people criticize it for, which is having a more grounded/darker tone throughout, which I would say is very consistent with the manga even amidst the absurdity of certain devil powers/fights
How long is the Culling Game arc? I mean, obv the movie won't cover it all bc it's got, like, all of Shibuya arc as well? I'll be seated regardless, I just really like that Reze Arc is its own little thing, y'know? Like Hidden Inventory or Mugen Train. Hashira Training is short enough that it could've been its own movie as well, but obv they wanted to have Swordsmith Village in theaters for fans to see the Nezuko scene on the big screen--and I was seated for that, too! A half-old half-new movie is just weird tho imo
only anime i'm actively watching rn is MHA and every episode has me jumping out of my chair i am going to be very sad when this ends time for me to start up one of the dozens of other animes in my various watchlists then!!
There’s no way they even get to the actual Culling Games in the movie. After Shibuya there’s a shorter arc before the Culling Games where they basically get a team together and make a plan for what to do going forward, and that inevitably leads to several characters getting in a couple fights. Based on what they’ve shown in trailers, I’m guessing it doesn’t even get to those fights (though there’s one big fight before the planning scene that will clearly be shown)
Season 1 went to chapter 62 Season 2 was 63-137, so 74 chapters I bet the movie includes 138-146, based on the clips I’ve seen. Doesn’t look like they’re going further than that, unless they’re intentionally keeping stuff out of the trailers And I think season 3 would be best to end at 215, so 69 chapters, which would leave 55 chapters for season 4 (though honestly splitting it up into 2 movies would be awesome). The only other option that would be acceptable imo is ending season 3 at 222, but I feel like that would be best left contained within the final season
Went back to see Reze again, wanted to check out the dub this time. Probably even better a second time around. Beam making horse noises while CSM rides him into battle is incredible stuff.
I feel like it makes sense to share this here. Tonight my family went to this Japanese restaurant, Pop Onigiri, and I got to try some stuff I'd only seen in anime and I was pretty stoked. Got a milk tea, some takoyaki, and a spicy curry pork tonkatsu ramen. The milk tea was pretty good but it had that boba stuff in it which I'd never had before, and honestly I don't get the appeal. The boba was kind of flavorless and the novelty of having to chew something every time I took a sip wore off very quickly. Milk tea itself was good though. The takoyaki had a sweetness I wasn't expecting and for some reason I thought the consistency would be more like hush-puppies or calamari, but it actually was more pastry-like almost. Was pretty good though. The ramen though was where it was at. The pork was shredded instead of being the cutlet I'd envisioned but that's not a knock on it at all. The curry broth was just spicy enough to be flavorful and warming but not overwhelming and it was super delicious. Didn't try any of their desserts, hoping to do that next time. They have a chicken katsu that intrigues me and looks more like what I had been expecting with the tonkatsu ramen. Anyway, just thought I'd share my experience. I'd always been intrigued by the food I'd seen in anime and had been wanting to find some place to give it a try, so I'm glad I got to cross that off my list.
TIL there's tonkatsu which is what I thought I ordered and tonkotsu, which is what I actually ordered. The former is the breaded pork cutlet, the latter is pork broth, which explains both why it didn't look as expected and why they had ones that specifically mentioned pork.
Takoyaki rules. Okonomiyaki is also great. Give me anything with fish flakes, mayo, and a sweet and savory brown sauce, basically.
Reze movie is absolutely great, I'd say even more visually gorgeous than Infinity Castle especially for the amount of different animation styles it incorporates comparatively.
As a kid the Pokémon anime dub would refer to onigiri as donuts, so I remember feeling very betrayed when I learned what it actually was
finally watched Belle, i liked it a lot up until the end, i think the resolution of the child abuse plotline was handled very clumsily. aside from that, the music and visuals are all fantastic. definitely not my favorite Mamoru Hosoda film (i'd only seen up to Wolf Children before this), but there's a lot more good than bad.
Definitely Hosoda’s weakest, which isn’t terrible coming from a director who doesn’t miss. Solid movie though, I remember liking it and being confused by the amount of hate it got.
Almost my entire tiktok feed is Chainsaw Man movie and I'm so tired of it I need to go see it again before it leaves
Seeing it for a 3rd time tomorrow because my wife actually took an interest in seeing it. definitely worth seeing on the it screen if you can make it!
Episode 1015 of One Piece. looks like a movie. Man I love Luffy and how other characters interact with him. I’ve never watched an anime or any show for that matter that is so good at hitting me in the feels.
