So I started Steins gate and I am confused on subs vs dubs. I don't know where my friend got it from, but he has both options available. My issue with the dubbed is that the onscreen text isn't translated, so for example in episode 2 when he's on the computer and researching the 'time traveler', other than the exposition, I have no idea wtf is going on and from comments online, it's only going to get worse if you miss what the onscreen text is saying. If I put the subtitles on, it translate a lot of the text (but not all of it - some flashes by quickly and probably isn't even on screen for enough time to be read) but it's the subtitles for the Japenese version which doesn't match the English dialogue. So then it's the distraction of hearing the dub, trying not to get confused when the subs don't match, but also looking for the subtitles that translate the text on screen.... A lot of brain power in that one. At this point I am wondering if it's best to just do subtitles completely? But then I've heard that the dub is much better for American audiences due to updated references and slang. Does anyone know what the official streams are like? Hulu has the dub (does that translate the text?) and crunchy roll has subs only. Also still watching and enjoying Monster immensely. I just finished the 3rd arc (ep 39) so half way through the journey and it's great. Talk about suspense and slowly tightening the screw.
I love the original Japanese for Steins Gate and can't imagine watching it any other way but I'm almost always sub.
Thanks. Ill go back to the sub and see whats best. Ive done a mix so far for the shows ive watched normally based on a quick google of whats best. With the text heavy nature of SG, i immediately thought i was missing something. Monster = subs Edgerunners = dubs Pluto = dubs
Finally decided to watch the live action One Piece.. obviously, it doesn't hold a candle to the anime and I’m sure the manga for those who read it. I will say I do like Sanji, Zoro and Garp. Their actors did a fun job with their respective roles.
wow Uzumaki is actually coming out It looks great, still not thrilled they're doing the whole manga in just 4 episodes
Suicide Squad Isekai is pretty good if you're already a fan of DC. I like Harley, Katana, June, and Nanaue in it--basically all the female characters, and the shark.
I read the first two or three volumes of the manga and it’s actually super wholesome with amazing art. I need to catch up on it.
Dungeon Meshi ep 17: obviously I've seen clips of it, it's partly what got me into checking out the series in the first place, but seeing it in its entirety and in context is just, holy shit this fight is fucking awesome also "whoa hey" will never not be funny
Just about finished with Dressrosa. Reminded me of the Freiza saga in a lot of ways. Overall really enjoyed it, some pacing issues, but Doflamingo is easily the best villain in the series thus far and it was nice to have an actual threat that felt serious and have the stakes feel high. Best since Crocodile easily. Probably my second or third favorite arc after Water 7/Enies Lobby/Marineford.
Thanks! I feel like I started before Joe4th. Damn you must be ripping through them. I’ll go through lulls. I need to catch up! Punk Hazard is interesting so far. Enjoying it.
