I really hope this stuff blows up and there are changes in anime production, but knowing japans working culture I’m not optimistic. I think at the bare minimum, shows should be finished before airing. This isn’t south park, these shows should be be worked on until the day they air
I highly recommend people watch Shirobako by the brilliant PA Works. It’s 26 episodes and a movie, but from what I hear it’s a pretty realistic (but very sanitized and optimistic) take on anime production. It’s great
I loved Skypeia. Honestly Wano is the main OP arc that just dragged on forever for me despite having some great moments. It doesn't help that I think the art is getting messier and more cluttered as it goes on.
One Piece has never had better animation than what they’ve had during Wano. I think the first big moment was Zoro vs. Kamazo, but the raid on Onigashima turned it up to 11 It’s just that for a weekly show, they basically need to spend 90% of their time on those select episodes where the animation gets near-movie quality. So tons of episodes in between have dogshit animation. Which, worth it imo, because before that it has only had a very tiny select moments of actually cool animation
Same thing happened with Naruto. You could always tell when it was about to pop off. The animation just got so much better for those episodes. Okay that Long Long Island went on a little too long as well. Foxy dude and the ton of games, was fun, but damn.
Yep but Naruto at least had that built in from the beginning - first one that comes to mind is Sasuke’s second sharingan opening up and him beating the shit out of Orochimaru. And then shortly after that Rock Lee’s fight with Gaara of course. That’s all like 50 episodes in, probably less With One Piece I don’t even know how long it took for there to be a really detailed fight sequence like that. Sanji vs. Bonclay was pretty fluid at points, but definitely not on the same level at all. The earliest eps that immediately come to mind for me aren’t until like the 400-500s lol
That’s true. Most of the fights are like special moves only. I’m waiting for like a Naruto/Dbz style fight. It’s been getting more and more intricate with the battles tho, I will say. Got a nice punch flurry with Luffy boxing in an Afro haha
You should also watch the One Piece movie Baron Omatsuri and the Secret Island (looked it up and people say you should wait till after getting through at least chapter 224, I guess). It’s famous for being much darker, both in tone and animation, than pretty much anything in OP before or since then. It’s pretty unique
I ended up deleting my MAL account yesterday for a multitude of reasons, the big reasons being that I can't stand its community and that I just did a super poor job of keeping it updated anyway. Trying to keep to some super rigid list just doesn't work for me. Maybe I have undiagnosed ADD or something but the way I end up enjoying anime the most is when I just do it on my own terms by watching whatever I feel like regardless of whether I'm watching like 10 other things at the same time.
I just use MAL to record things I’ve finished watching because I have a horrible memory. I don’t log anything until I’ve finished, and I don’t post in the forums at all.
This is me, sort of. I actually use an app on my phone that taps into MAL's database so I can keep track of what I've watched episode by episode, and keep track of what I want to watch in the future, otherwise I'll just forget. I like having something that helps me organize.
I've always hated the MAL interface so I use Anime Planet to log my shit instead. I wouldn't go on the forums for either lol.
I'm trying to hop back on the anime train after World Trigger derailed it. Currently watching Nakaimo: My Little Sister Is Among Them! which is absolutely a trash anime, but I'll tell you what, it's more interesting and entertaining than World Trigger. I probably will go back to World Trigger at some point, but I think it's one of those anime I'm just gonna have to tackle piece by piece rather than all at once. In the meantime, I'm just gonna let ecchi antics bathe my brain like warm bleach.
Togashi has his revealed his plan D ending for HxH in case he is unable to finish. He has plans A-C to be one of the actual possible endings if he gets to finish it the way he wants to
I get it. I now understand the fandom. I don’t understand how it’s gotten even better from Water 7 into Enies Lobby. Absolutely enjoying this.
