Idk it gets better every time for me. So many great moments. HxH is constantly changing things up and evolving so there's not a single moment where it gets stale or boring for me.
I love JJK post-Shibuya because many of the new cursed techniques/battles become much more convoluted and reminiscent of HxH nen abilities, where it’s not simply a matter of one person having overwhelming strength or not
I’m about a third of the way through Gintama and it’s moving up to becoming my favourite anime ever, so so great
Echoing the Yorknew sentiments, that arc was incredible. I keep starting to read Gintama and then I inevitably stop around 60 chapters in each time. I need to sit down and actually just plough through it
Tbf most shonen is shit so I can see why people like Chimera because it bucks the trend in a lot of ways. It's not super traditional. But that's about it. I'm real bummed about the Yu Yu Hakusho anime remake coming out. How do you remake perfection?
Maybe try giving the anime a watch, I think it translate a lot better watching it instead of reading it as there’s lots of physical comedy and gags, and the voice cast do a wonderful job
Chimera Ant does subvert a lot of trends and is certainly more interesting in terms of structure, plot and themes than most shonen but it also has some of the strongest emotional beats and iconic moments for me in any manga/anime. HxH was already top tier but that's the arc that elevates it to best of all time status.
Off the top of my head, some of my favorites are Return to Shiganshina / Marley Pain’s Assault Dark Tournament Yorknew Final arc of Fullmetal Alchemist Shibuya Control Devil Arc (Chainsaw Man) If One Piece had arcs that were actually reasonable in length then I’d maybe consider them, but when considering arcs as a whole (rather than specific moments within the arcs that I like) I can’t think of any that are that far up there for me. Though Egghead may buck that trend because it has not had a single dull moment the entire time, it’s only become more hyped as it goes on
I really struggle with watching shows, especially long form ones when I'm watching them on my own. My attention span is a very fickle thing (recently diagnosed ADHD which explains a lot lol), whenever I put on a show or even youtube videos there's times where it takes me 2 hours to watch 5 minutes. I find manga far easier to pick up and put down - Thanks for the recommendation though! Also seconding Egghead for One Piece, ever since Wano finished the series has just been firing on all cylinders - 25+ years of setup are finally culminating, the threads are unravelling at max speed and it's fucking fantastic. Marineford and Enies Lobby also were absolutely cracked imo.
So I've been watching World Trigger on and off for probably a month now. More off than on, and I think the reason is because even though I find some bits interesting, the storytelling feels super decompressed and slow paced. I feel like it's adapting at a 1:1 ratio, and it really suffers from it IMO. I might put it aside and start watching some other series.
SAME I just went through this a while back with that show. It's interesting, but also not? You're completely right about the pacing. When it's good, it's pretty decent and I find the action enjoyable, but damn there's just some monotonous stuff in there.
It also doesn't help that half of each episode is just recap from the last episode and a dumb closing segment recap of what we "learned" that episode.
