He absolutely is. His shoulder has been messed up for over a year I think. He’s been taking multiple breaks while also rushing towards the end and you can tell. I still love the manga but he absolutely needs to take an extended break but I don’t see it happening at this point. He just wants to be done.
Same. I just really wish he would ask for a break. He’s said in the past that he fears being cancelled if he took a break, but like dude you’re at the end of the series, they’re not going to cancel it on you now. The general consensus I’ve seen seems to be for him going on an extended break and to put his health first. The wait would suck but it’d be better for him obviously and I think this final arc would benefit from him having the extra time to let it stew. It is what it is though. I’m not as harsh on this final arc as a lot of people are, but I get the complaints
Finished catching up on Kaiju No. 8. The wait for the next chapter is gonna be brutal. Definitely check this one out if you even have the slightest interest, it’s phenomenal imo. I can’t imagine the anime not being a huge hit when it drops
Pacing has been off but it's been fine imo. Lot of good and hype moments, good character arc ends, a couple of "... why" moments but honestly been enjoyable.
Is MHA monthly? Because 7 pages a month would bother me I’m reading chainsaw man where every issue is like 10 pages and nothing happens, but at least it’s biweekly
My Hero is weekly. but yeah SJ needs to be better at letting people take breaks when they need to. let artists get better and give them time to make the work as good as it can be.
I have seen authors, at least in the series I follow, get some leeway recently - Hori-dragon went on hiatus with just 10 chapters, Oda from One Piece works on a 3 chapters -> break schedule, I'm relatively sure Gege Akutami (JJK) does the same, Black Clover has had plenty of breaks over the last year (mostly due to unfortunate family matters), Chainsaw Man releases when it releases, sometimes weekly, sometimes biweekly, page content ranging from 11 pages to 50 sometimes (relatively certain CSM isn't SJ though) - There is full precendent for giving MHA breaks but the man seems to just wants to get it over and done with, even if he just releases less and less. IMO it's actually counterintuitive - people seem to have the concept that the way you get things done is by throwing more hours at it and grinding, but you're more likely to get more work done in a shorter timeframe to boot by being well rested. The industry needs to accommodate the authors to their needs, not the other way around. Nobody wants another Miura situation to happen again.
The way Chainsaw Man had a long break after the first part should be done more often imo. Let creators have breaks to recover and plan out the next arcs. I feel like that will result in better work and happier/healthier creators.
I can only hope Horikoshi (MHA) takes a long break when he finishes and comes back strong with a horror manga in couple years that doesn’t need to be weekly. He would absolutely kill with a horror series
Chainsaw Man is on Shonen Jump Black Clover author just announced that he's switching from Shonen Jump to Jump Giga, which is quarterly, so an extreme shift MHA has the type of setting that could easily have a million spin-offs and bring different authors in and keep fans appeased with that while the main author rests up and gets time+energy to finish the main story
Demon Lord, Retry! R Sequel Manga Gets Anime I'm pleasantly but completely shocked that Demon Lord, Retry is returning to anime. Like if Overlord and Slime had a weird chain-smoking middle-aged man baby who does nice things under the guise of practicality.
Have to assume there will be more, there’s a recap movie planned for next year (boo) but Cloverworks, like most studios, are busy as fuck.
the only scene in isekai that matters (btw, when I was randomly looking up this scene a few weeks ago, I was surprised to see there was a lot of discourse about queer coding. I mean, of course it makes sense, Tsukasa is a boy in-game but a girl in the real world so you can read it as trans-coded, or you can see irl Tsukasa's relationship with Subaru as lesbian, I'd just never seen it talked about like that before, didn't look at anime through that lens at the time)
