Dunno if this has been talked about, but finished the latest Berserk season. I loved the original but man, this was tough to watch.
i watched the first episode and couldn't get through anything else, then again i havent seen any anime in months.
The animation is so bad. Its blocky looking CGI with like hand drawn shading on it? And then story wise I feel they wasted so much time on dumb new characters when I wanted to see Guts revenge hunt for the Apostles. Granted, he did take one out. Also I know from reading online about who the Skull Knight is and what the deal with that Fetus is, but they kinda just pop in with no explanation for people who just watched the original season and jumped into this....
I'm 3/26 into His and Her Circumstances and 2/3 into Memories. The first is a romcom co-directed by Anno (Evangelion) and Tsurumaki (FLCL, Diebuster). The second is a collection of three 40 minute film adaptations of manga by Otomo (Akira). Both are great.
Here's a really well done Kare Kano (Kareshi Kanojo no Jijou/His and Her Circumstances) AMV (potential spoilers depending on how little you want to know going in, but no specific plot points)
Mamoru Hosoda (Summer Wars, Wolf Children, Bakemono no Ko) just announced his next film for 2018. Little is known except that he plans to make the movie about siblings. Hosoda is my favorite filmmaker so I'm basically mentally preparing myself.
I like it. It's a fairly standard high school romcom, but unique enough to distinguish itself. It has lots of Tsurumaki's wacky humour and is peppered with the intellectual probing, particularly around youth and coming of age, that you would expect from both directors. For example, the most recent episode I watched was about the trade off between time spent preparing for adulthood/studying and indulging in youthful passions/fun.
@GettingSodas My favorite anime: Attack on Titan Soul eater Noragami arogoto Psycho pass One punch man Fullmetal alchemist brotherhood Blue exorcist
I feel like Attack on Titan and One Punch Man are both very good watches for people trying out anime. Both very fun/exciting immediately. I can't wait for more of either of them.
Something about the style of AoT is so offputting to me. I had tried reading it a while back and just thought, 'this is the ugliest comic I've ever seen'.
I tried Soul Eater a while back and there were some things I really liked about it visually but I hated all three of the main male characters so much I couldn't watch more than 5 episodes.
I haven't watched the whole thing, but in the manga, I loved Black Star and Tsubaki. Their dynamic was probably my favorite of the bunch. Kid Death and the twins were fun at times. When KD freaks out about his hair, I lose it. Scythe is pretty bland. Some of the later stuff with him being corrupted is cool, but out the gate he's not great. All that being said, the visual style of the anime (what I saw) was incredibly cool. Bones put out some really great looking shows.
