Wrapped up Boogiepop and Others last night. Started off kind of lukewarm on it but ended up really loving it about a quarter of the way through. Really wish they would continue adapting more stories in that universe.

I felt the same way. Glad I stuck with it, but it's very slow paced and it's hard to really get attached to any characters since their presence in the plot at any given time is never guaranteed. Hell, even Boogie only shows up once in a while. It's an interesting world though.

Still watching To Love Ru. On the verge of starting Darkness 2nd, the final season so far.

Now having watched Motto and Darkness, it's fascinating to me how the series getting better in art style, story development, and character complexity is also directly proportional to how overtly ecchi the series becomes.

I’m reading MHA and there’s a character death that’s impacting me more than any in fiction. FUCK.

Last night I finished To Love Ru, and I can't really say anything about it I haven't already said, so instead I'll talk about how it's always slightly depressing for me when I'm watching something with a lot of episodes, and at the start I feel like I have so many episodes to go, and it's exciting, and when I finally finish it and I have no more episodes, there's a lost feeling like I no longer know what to do with myself. How do I function without more episodes?

Actually, one thing I will add about To Love Ru. I'm amused by the running gag that eventually the cast is so used to Yuki's habit of tripping over people in ecchi ways that they actively try to direct him away from people lest it happen to them. And not in a way where they blame Yuki; they just know that it's going to happen whether anyone likes it or not.

I also appreciate that Yuki as a character is not himself perverted. These kinds of shows always ride or die on their protagonist in my opinion, and it's hard, if not impossible, to like a character who is actively trying to get ecchi things to happen. The fact that he's always so embarrassed and apologetic about everything makes the character more endearing, IMO.

Anyway, next I'm probably going to watch Sayonara, Zetsubou-Sensei.

for Bocchi the Rock fans, stumbled onto these live in studio versions of a couple songs (Kita voice actor singing, actual musicians playing.)

even if you don't watch the show, the music fucking rules

There's also a live Kessoku Band show at the end of May with all the cast (assume they'll be miming their instruments and singing like the K-On shows). Have to assume a season 2 announcement will be coming around that time?

I’m never one to say this, but…today’s episode of Vinland Saga was ROUGH. My wife almost turned it off. 10/10 show though.

Finished the first season of Sayonara Zetsubou-Sensei, and I don't really know how to describe it. It's like a surrealist version of a harem anime, except the focal point is less about the harem and more about whatever weird fucking rant the titular character is going on about that day.

Like, the first episode begins with the lead trying to commit suicide by hanging, which becomes a running gag throughout the show that he keeps trying to hang himself because he starts "despairing" over the weirdest shit.

So far my favorite characters is a tie between the hikikomori who just appears in random closed-in places and the girl who can't say two words to anyone but has no problem talking shit in a text message to someone five feet away.

So I'm verging on the final episodes of Sayonara Zetsubou-Sensei, and I think I get the point of the show more clearly now. It's a complete critique and send-up of societal norms. It starts with whatever tangent the lead character goes on that day, and then he and his students explore them in comedic and non-sensical fashion.

The "harem" part of the show is really minimal and only serves to fuel a few running gags, like the stalker girl speaking up from behind Sensei, him turning and asking "You were there?", and her reply: "Yes. Always." Or the order-obsessed girl eventually turning into a yandere.

It's a really weird show, to be sure, and the comedy can be dark and unhinged at times, but it's interesting.

Anyway, once I'm finished, I'll be choosing between either Moriarty The Patriot, or finally breaking down and watching Your Lie In April. Maybe I should do the latter. I think I'm ready now to have a good cry again.

I started Girlfriend Girlfriend a week or so ago. Slowly getting into it but definitely not as much as Rent-A-Girlfriend to which I’m not so patiently waiting to come back on in June.

In my defense, I only really got into anime in the last couple of years, and now I'm playing extreme catch-up.

Which is weird, because I'm also realizing how much I always gravitated to anime when I think of my gaming interests.

It just never occurred to me that I might want to dive into it. And now here I am.

Death Parade is pretty great, as is that theme song, but it's such an odd upbeat song for such a bleak, bleak show.

i loved sayonara zetsubou sensei when i first read it, and the talk on here about it made me want to see if its been published in english.

it has been published and it was released under the name zayonara zetsubou sense: the power of negative thinking, which i thought was funny, its a fitting subtitle but also its so weird that sometimes english publishers opt to change titles. it does unfortunately seem like many of the volumes are out of print, but used copies dont seem that expensive.
