I've spun my wheel, and selected four more anime from the ether, one of which is I know going to be heavy emotionally. I'm adding: Your Lie In April, Life With An Ordinary Guy Who Reincarnated Into A Total Fantasy Knockout, My Wife Is The Student Council President!, and The Misfit Of Demon King Academy.
Because if I remember correctly some of the jokes in Yuyushiki are wordplay based off of Japanese and I don't know if the dub translates it well and I thought those jokes were very funny
Oh, okay. Yeah, things like this are exactly why I stick to subs nowadays for pretty much everything. Also because I think Japanese sounds adorable in the right hands.
I think it's also cool to just hear the original intent behind some of the lines and how they wanted the acting to go. Like there are so many wonderful Japanese voice actors who do such great performances and then dubs of them sometimes are so bland and flat.
So I started My Wife Is The Student Council President! last night, and it strikes me that there's this whole time period of anime where it decided it wanted to be ecchi but didn't know how to properly strike a balance between that and being absolutely anything else, so it just comes off as being softcore hentai. It doesn't help that the creators of these titles almost always are former hentai authors taking a stab at doing something more "mainstream", whatever that means in this context. I started this thinking it was going to be more like Seitokai Yakuindomo and instead I'm getting Shimoneta meets Why The Hell Are You Here, Teacher!?. If you don't understand what that means, bless you, child.
Chainsaw Man finale was kind of underwhelming. The ugly CG really hurts the fight scenes. What chapter of the manga did the end on, I’m gona start reading it from here
Some of the scenes in that fight were beautiful, even with CGI present - it's just when it goes down to like 10fps when they're standing there talking that it looks shit. So long as they stop doing that and use the CGI solely for the high pace stuff it'll be fine.
Saves a ton of time and a lot of money it's such a bummer since the show looks great until he becomes chainsaw man, turns into fuckin Zoids
Yeah saves a massive amount of time - having a pre-rendered model you just need to rig to move vs drawing each frame is a difference of hours vs days
There isn't a separate thread for manga, I think anime and manga can be discussed here because they're from Japan and very often one is an adaptation of the other. Comics and graphic novels in the Comics thread, and I guess books in general in the Book thread.
