Yeah, that was good. But the first half was just the kids training and the second half was build up to this arc. It felt dragged out.
I just remember feeling meh for the overhaul arc and the kids training one but this current season is actually top tier
I liked the training because I enjoyed seeing all of Class 1B shown for the first time. I’m just a sucker for any series where people have misc superpowers and the creator has to think of all news kinds of powers and applications. I think s4 was way worse - there was a lot of stuff in the Overhaul arc that is/becomes important later on, but introducing the yakuza as main villains for a whole arc felt awkwardly forced. Then the Gentle Criminal shit was just stupid and truly pointless
It took me a long time because of one reason or another, but I finally buckled down and finished Boogiepop And Others. I'm still not sure how I feel about it. It sometimes felt very slow-burning and disjointed, and it was hard to remember who some characters were at times because they appeared so infrequently. But when it was firing on all cylinders, it had some interesting themes and monologues, especially from the titular character, and it had a real vibe to it, moreso toward the latter half of the run. Ultimately, I liked it, but it could have been better. I also believe the opening credits are very, very misleading, because it makes you think the two characters involved are going to play major roles, when one is just a secondary character at best and the other only exists to be the host for Boogiepop and barely has more than three lines in the whole show. Very weird choice. Anyway, my next watch poses a question: Suppose a kid from the last dungeon boonies moves to a starter town? What happens? Let's find out!
Watched the first two episodes of Suppose A Kid From The Longest Fucking Anime Title last night, and it's just as fun and fluffy as I wanted. A nice palate cleanser after Boogiepop and before I start something else more serious. Love the pettiness of cursing someone with Medium-Level Misfortune.
during the Christmas season I plan on binge watching the new mob psycho, stone ocean and spy x family.
I watched the first two episodes. I’m not a sports person, but it’s an interesting take on sports anime
Rascal Does Not Dream Sequel Anime to Play in Theaters So it looks like the new Rascal project is, as we discussed, not a new season, nor does it sound like a single movie either. The verbiage surrounding tickets makes it sound like it's actually two movies of indeterminate length, to adapt both books. I am excited.
Finished Suppose A Kid... and I really enjoyed it. A lighthearted feel-good fantasy romp. Two things that leapt out at me. I like how Lloyd is the right kind of oblivious where he never accurately understands what's going on at any given time, but not in a hopeless, unhelpful kind of way. Case in point: early on, the king is possessed by a demon, but Lloyd doesn't know this and just thinks the king is wearing a weird costume. Rather than take the time to correct Lloyd, his allies roll with it and tell him to clean up the king's face with his handkerchief, which is coated in a cleansing magic that banishes the demon. It’s the way it happens that sells it. Lloyd is just a lovable goof. The other thing is the main villain, whom I find intriguing: He's a being created from rune magic to be a hero whom, after fulfilling his purpose, thought he would dissipate. When this didn't happen, he eventually came to the conclusion that for him to die, he needs someone to become a new hero, and he chooses Lloyd. Literally everything he does is for the sole purpose of being a big enough villain to boost Lloyd into taking his place as a hero, so he can pass on. An interesting wrinkle, I feel. Anyway, next I'll be taking on To Your Eternity.
Actually, maybe I'll do Darling In The Franxx instead. I didn't realize To Your Eternity Season 2 is still running. I think I'll give that time to finish, so I can binge it all.
Been watching a bunch of stuff lately since I've been sick for the past few days. I'm taking a break from Bleach after watching the first two major arcs, so I ended up getting through Hellsing Ultimate and FLCL last week, both of which were awesome in their own ways, though I do wish FLCL was longer since its 6 episodes are so damn good. But I do understand that the short run time is part of its charm. Hellsing Ultimate was just a ton of fun, and the animation was top notch for me. Also just binged S1 and S2 of Mob Psycho over the weekend. Might be one of my favorite recent shows, up there with JJK personally. Think I'm gonna wait it out a few more weeks for S3 to be complete so I can just binge that on/around Christmas.
I did look into the sequels since i really loved FLCL but from what I've read about Progressive and Alternative, they dont seem to capture the same magic as the original so I was just gonna hold off for the time being and come back to them at a later date. I'm sure they're not bad on their own but I have a toooon of other shows/movies/OVAs on my watchlist I'm dying to check out. Thinking I'll probably move on to something like Evangelion to satisfy my need for a weird mecha show.
if you like FLCL, check out Sonny Boy. Its not as high energy as FLCL but I think it’s a good companion in terms of weirdness, unique art style and trippy shit. 12 episodes. One of my favorites of the last few years
