ive read that it's a tie in/prequel of sorts to Soul Eater which makes me want to start watching. just not sure how much it ties in.
yes but that’s honestly not even the weird part that I’m thinking about lol. And it is a very explicit tie-in, though I guess technically it’s not like it necessarily makes you think differently about SE or whatever, more like just a way for him to connect the two works
Interesting, I expected it to almost be a full on prequel by the way people have been talking about it. I guess I just need to check out Fire Force at this point and figure it out.
Err well yes it technically is, but again it’s more like he just connects the two — the events of SE ostensibly start *generations* after the events of FF, and my interpretation of his reason for connecting them is to make more of a thematic point about FF than anything else? Hard to explain without just spoiling the entire thing, and I think it’s worth reading/watching the series *without* that stuff in mind until it actually appears, because it signals a big shift in the series generally, and it’s not like he left little hints throughout the series that were leading up to that reveal — it just sort of randomly pops up as part of a hard turn near the end But anyway yeah Fire Force is great, the fight scenes alone are worth it for how incredibly animated they are, like often Demon Slayer-level. And props to Ohkubo for thinking of so many different fire-based powers lol
Harem in the Labyrinth of Another World Anime Reveals Theme Songs I can't really fault the logic on this one. "Anime fans like isekai. Anime fans like harems. Let's just give them what they want, no messing about, exactly what it says on the tin. You know exactly what you're getting, don't even have to ask."
I think it's just like anything. Something gets popular, so everybody plays follow the leader until all life and profit is drained out of the machine. For every Re:Zero, Shield Hero, or Konosuba, there's an Isekai Cheat Magician, In The Land Of Leadale, or Do You Love Your Mom And Her Two-Hit Multi-Target Attacks. I mean, some of the dumber and generic ones can still be entertaining. I myself inexplicably love In Another World With My Smartphone and I'm excited for a second season, but I have increasingly noticed how many of these upcoming adaptations basically boil down to "Okay, it's an isekai, but...(insert hook here)". I mean, there's one being adapted where the hero is reborn as a sword. There's another that's not adapted where the hero becomes a vending machine. It's wild. It's like junk food, frankly. That's the best way to look at it, I guess.
It's not like there aren't a ton of terrible shonen and romance and other junk, it's just Isekai time. In ten years it will be so different
I think the mecha genre is the one genre I actually have yet to watch anything in. It's not that I don't have any on my list, cause I do, but I just haven't gotten to it yet.
You beat me to the response, but pretty much this. The Faraway Paladin is one that really surprised me recently. Slime has excellent worldbuilding and is one of the best.
Haven't seen The Faraway Paladin yet, but I love me some Slime. I love how it's basically the mirror to Overlord. Both Ains and Rimuru are building their kingdoms, but one does it through fear and subjugation and the other does it by simply being a fucking nice person.
I got five episodes into Overlord and wasn’t feeling it. Have you seen Ascendence of a Bookworm? It looks good
I have not. It's on my list for sure, but I just haven't gotten around to it yet. Heard good things though. Overlord admittedly is not for everyone, especially since you're basically following the bad guys as they do increasingly morally questionable things.
Update on my watching: Danganronpa actually has taken me away from keeping up with anime viewing, but I just started to watch Hi Score Girl, and it's alright so far. I dunno what I thought it was, but I thought it would be more of a hijinks kind of thing and instead it's a little more... I don't want to say "serious", but there's more going on under the surface than I expected. The third episode was sad. Kind of low-level wondering if the titular girl has something mentally going on, seeing as how she never talks, gets violent easily, and seems abnormally adept at gaming. I dunno, I might be reading too much into how she's written.
