It's been a while since I've watched the episodes, but from what I remember, all the episodes are the same (besides the eighth) except for minor details, like clothes they might be wearing. Some people seem to suggest only watching the first, second, and eighth episode.

However, I think I remember in one of the episodes something being said a certain way that maybe reveals a little more about the character that's saying it. I don't want to be too specific because I don't want to spoil if I'm remembering correctly.

I dunno, I think it's worth it to experience once since it's part of the experience of watching the show, and I just like weird experiments like this in general. But I also don't think it's absolutely necessary to be subjected to it if you find you're not into it.

Also curious, what order are you watching the series as a whole? I chose to watch in chronological order, meaning I finished Season 2 before finishing Season 1.

whichever the crunchyroll order is, I believe it’s chronological

Finished watching A Lull In The Sea and really enjoyed it. Pulled on my heartstrings real good, and had a very satisfying ending. The sea god is a fucking moron.

Anyway, I'm still standing on A Million Lives, but since it's all I have left, I figure it's time for me to spin the wheel and add some more to my plate.

    (spins wheel)

And the winners this time are... Highschool Of The Dead, Aggretsuko, My Love Story, and Hi Score Girl.

    Interesting.

I've been reading the original Dragon Ball manga recently and it's definitely interesting. It does have a lot of charm to it and I can see why it's as popular as it is

Just finished The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya, pretty fantastic. I thought the series was a little uneven with very little payoff, but I'm glad I watched all of it (maybe I didn't need to watch all 8 episode of The Endless Eight haha) for the movie to hit right.

Not sure what I'm gona watch next

I feel like the movie is the payoff. In fact, the only reason The Endless Eight exists is because the Disappearance was originally supposed to be part of Season 2, and then they decided to make it a movie instead. But they still had episodes to fill, so... that's when they got the idea to do The Endless Eight.

I also agree that the movie wouldn't be nearly as resonant without all the nonsense of the show to inform everything. A lot of things are like that. You can't just jump right into emotional catharsis unless you have everything leading up to it.

That moment when Kyon has the epiphany that he actually enjoys his crazy life? And the fact that he's spending all this time trying to get back to a world with Haruhi in it? So good.

Anyway, now that you've watched the whole thing, there's another scene I want to dissect from the show itself.

It's the scene in Sigh where Kyon almost hits Haruhi. That scene has stuck with me, because I think it's such a well-orchestrated example of just how quickly everything can and almost did go off the rails.

It's how everything slowly builds to that moment, and then it happens so quickly, and suddenly the whole dynamic of everything has shifted.

Haruhi reaching peak asshole in her mistreatment of Mikuru, Kyon's anger finally boiling over, and then the shock on both their faces after Itsuki catches Kyon's arm and they realize what almost happened.

And then time unfreezes and Haruhi is continuing to rant, but she's also fighting back tears. And Kyon starts trying to free his arm, but Itsuki won't let him go. And then Mikuru diffusing everything.

And then everything afterward is so meaningful. Itsuki discussing with Kyon how close they came to a point of no return. Itsuki explaining how hurt Haruhi was by the fact that Kyon didn't just go along with her. Kyon making up with Haruhi by convincing her to continue the movie. The fact that before Kyon walked in to apologize, Haruhi was tying her hair in a ponytail (her way of apologizing).

It's also the moment that marks a fundamental shift in Haruhi's behavior. While I absolutely disagree with Kyon's actions, his thought about Haruhi during the moment, that she's in danger of always being the person that nobody likes, is insightful. And I think that reached Haruhi, because from that moment forward, she's less abrasive.

It's just such a layered sequence of events, and even though Disappearance was phenomenal as a capstone to the show, I think Sigh worked well enough as a capstone to Season 2. In fact, I'd argue that the events of Sigh are a precursor to what happens in Disappearance.

That scene in Sigh is great, though I think my complaint about payoff is more to do with how each paranormal entity seems to have their own agenda and hints that the others shouldn’t be trusted, but nothing comes of it, it’s not explored. Overal I’d say it’s just more standalone and episodic than I wanted. But still a solid series

It's been a while since I've seen the show, so I can't comment too much on this. Even for my above post, I had to rewatch a couple scenes to refresh my memory.

That being said, I think a lot of the parts about trust issues have more to do with the organizations everyone belongs to rather than they themselves. The Overmind especially is an example of this. As time passes, the crew become more loyal to each other than to their superiors.

However, there are also several books that were never adapted for the anime, so I can't remember if any further events bring this back into focus.

Shield Hero this season is not good, but Skeleton Knight is pretty cute and Spy x Family is excellent.

Finished Season 1 of I'm Standing On A Million Lives, and I'm not sure how I feel about it.

I thought I was watching an isekai, turns out I was watching the birth of a sociopath instead.

I do find interesting that all the main characters are fairly damaged people, and I kind of wish the story leaned into the psychological aspects of what's going on a little more.

Gurren Lagann is such a goofy show. Like a 500ep shonen condensed into a fraction of the time. So all of the episodes hit basically the same points over and over, and any time Lagann upgrades there’s nothing more to it than the characters finding a renewed resolve to persist once again. Like literally no training or even like a slight shift in the character’s perspective or whatever. But then sorta cleverly explaining it away / getting meta about it by being like “Yeah in this universe that absurdly rapid evolution is what makes the humans unique and is actually the core conflict of the series” lol

I wonder, is this also affecting their anime? Everything I read in that article sounds like it's talking about non-anime animation, and while I'm gutted to hear about Bone, does this affect what they have going in the anime scene?

EDIT: The Wiki article for Netflix Animation makes it sound like they don't have anything to do with anime.

I'm watching Trapped in a Dating Sim right now. I just read the manga and I've never read a manga before the anime before so seeing how badly they're butchering this is amazing.

I get why so many people are like "read the manga, the anime ruined the source material" because some anime cut so many corners. This one is impressive how bad they've ruined it because it's all so cheaply done.

This is, among other things, why I'm reluctant to start The Promised Neverland, because I've read that the first season is great and accurate and then the second season takes a dumpster dive.

In fact, Million Lives kind of has that same issue going too. I'm almost done with Season 2, and instead of adapting the arc they should be, they chose to adapt a side story arc instead because the actual arc would be too long to cram into six episodes.

And while I appreciate that they didn't try to do that, I can understand why people were upset by the decision, because the arc they could have had sounds more interesting than the one I'm currently watching.

I'm remembering other instances of this too, like Index's Battle Royale Arc and Date A Live's Itsuka Disaster Arc where the story was sacrificed for the sake of fitting it into a certain number of episodes (or in the latter's case, one episode).

It's a shame that this happens.

Season one of TPN is a masterpiece. For season two (only 12 episodes), they tried to cover the whole rest of the manga, which was A LOT of chapters.
