Highly recommend Gungrave, just skip the first episode and forget anything you know about a videogame. Wait, that was early 2000s, not 90s. Still, go watch it.
There are A LOT on there. Gundam 00 is another awesome stand-alone series that’s more modern. Fighter G Gundam is a Shonen fighting anime where countries battle each other with their Gundams in a tournament. It’s ridiculous and soooo campy. There’s also the very original series, but I’d recommend the movie trilogy on Netflix, since the pacing is a lot better. Build Fighters is super meta and is like Yu-Gi-Oh!, but kids battle with model Gundams (from various other Gundam shows). And Divers is the spiritual successor, but it’s kids trapped in a VR Gundam game.
Love & Pop and Ritual are both fantastic visually too. I'd love for him to make more live action movies.
Hideaki Anno also did Kare Kano, which is one of my favorite romance/slice-of-life series, it's a shame they couldn't wrap up the anime properly
I was reaaaaaally loving Belle until the child abuse plot turn. Felt like it just didn’t need to get that dark.
Hi friends. I’m not a big anime viewer but I deeply love most of the Miyazaki and Ghibli films, among other adjacent films (love me some Satoshi Kon, Isao Takahata, etc…)—never been much of an anime series guy… Anyway, I just saw Shinkai’s your name. for the first time and I wept like a little baby. Unbelievably good stuff.
Started a rewatch of Yu Yu Hakusho. The Dark Tournament saga has to be one of my favorite arcs in any anime ever
It's so unbelievably good I know people say Hunter x Hunter is better, but I think those people are nuts.
I started reading Attack on Titan and holy fuck does it have the ugliest art I've ever seen in a mainstream manga. I remember trying it about ten years back and giving up because of the drawing. Almost regret going back.
It gets better but it's definitely an acquired taste lol. I refused to read it for years because I hated it so much but I think I ended up preferring the manga art to the anime by the end. Plus the whole thing flowed much better as a manga.
It would probably flow better without years between seasons. I bet (re)starting it now as it's wrapping up would be pretty neat.
I saw that demon slayer only has a few more episodes left so I might end up just marathon through that before the season finale.
the hell of it is isayama is a fantastic character designer, mikasa, jean, hange, the levi and eren looks over the years, all fantastic. i would love to see him provide character designs for an anime sometime, sunrise is a big fan of enlisting mangaka for stuff like code geass, gundam, and valvrave
Just finished Komi Can't Communicate, really fun show. Happy season 2 is already right around the corner. Probably gona sign up for a trial of HIDIVE and watch Penguindrum next
