My Dress-Up Darling is really good. The animation is outstanding and the pacing is great so far. Each episode doesn't feel rushed or too hectic.
i really hope you enjoy, at its heart evangelion is just a love letter to all kinds of weird mecha and toku and i adore it for it
i loved 2.0 and when i watched 3.0 for the first time, i hated it for not building on 2.0 that well lol. on second viewing a couple years later i appreciated it a lot more, it's got a super minimal SHAFT-style presentation that does a lot of the storytelling re: what happened during the rebuild timeskip. when i wound up watching the final rebuild i was actually disappointed it didn't do more to build on it
I vaguely remember liking Eva more in the second half but it's been so long I can't pinpoint exactly where you need to get through before making up your mind on it like I can something like Steins;Gate. People would get two episodes into Madoka and not be feeling it and I'd just be like, Just one more episode, the point you have to cross is right there! haha
I'm not really into mecha, like I don't particularly seek it out, but Eva, Gurren Lagann, FLCL, Full Metal Panic, and Code Geass are all fantastic. The only Gundam series I've watched is 00 and it was fine.
Eva and Gurren Lagann are two of my all time favourites, Code Geass is ace too. Haven't watched much more.
i highly recommend macross to everyone - the original SDF is on prime with ads, but the animation can kind of throw people off. Do You Remember Love? is one of the greatest animated movies ever made though imo, it adapts the first series about as flawlessly as you can get. Macross Plus is a shorter OVA that's also exceptional, and if you want a more modern twist on the original's formula you can also go with Macross Frontier
I want to watch mobile gundam wing after that but I don’t even know where to find it since it’s not on Netflix
https://www.youtube.com/user/GundamInfo/playlists sunrise keeps an official youtube channel in the west that rotates different gundam series every few months, both subbed and dubbed if that's your poison. wing was just in the rotation a few months ago which means it should be coming back around soon
also, for the people in here who love the older gainax stuff and want to see where eva and gurren lagann get some of their humanist roots, gunbuster is a masterpiece of an ova and has an exceptional anniversary sequel in diebuster as well
I was obsessed with Evangelion, still kind of am. Reading all the crazy stuff that's only just barely mentioned in the show was my favorite part, all the First Ancestral Race shit. The Rebuilds are fun just for how absolutely batshit they are, but that original run + End of Evangelion is really special
Idk if I said this earlier or not but like that 90’s animation art style there is just something special about it
i really think you would love macross plus then, it's visionary sci-fi on top of being fantastic 90s mecha. basically predicted vocaloids and v-tubers and it does a good job of catching you up on the universe chronology if you haven't watched the first or DYRL?
I’ll have to add these all to the list i might start watching the 90’s animes more just because they are done
the cool part is I have never got into nge lore besides just cool mecha so really I’m going in blind which is a treat
It’s on Crunchyroll. I’d recommend Gundam: Iron Blooded Orphans. It’s a stand-alone series on Netflix. edit: Wing is on Hulu too
I can’t really explain it but the way it isn’t super polished just makes it better. like there was a scene in nge where everyone was frozen in place and just the two main characters were moving and that felt peak 90’s.
