I have about four episodes left to watch of Akatsuki no Yona. The anime of Twelve Kingdoms didn't have much resolution either because it stopped midway through the light novels, and it's still in my top three, so I'm fine with wherever the anime for Yona ends up. I guess I'll just have to read the rest.
I don't understand. Dragonball is one of the most popular anime properties of all time. HOW IS IT THIS BADLY ANIMATED? It's really pissing me off, because it really started to reach HQ DBZ animation during some episodes in the last tournament arc, but it's regressed to so damn bad that it's actively detracting from my enjoyment of the arc I'm the most excited about ( Future Trunks! Also, somebody please tell me it bothers them as much as me that his hair is blue in normal Saiyan form. And the explanation that that's his actual hair color in the manga is bullshit, cuz YOUNG TRUNKS STILL HAS PURPLE HAIR. GODDAMN.).
I have no idea. I watch so many shows that just look incredible with probably no where near the budget a Dragonball show should have. It makes no sense.
i actually couldn't continue watching the series after the first season. the first ep of the second season gets TOO weird/harem like, and i have zero idea what's going on. and i actually liked bakemono a lot.
isnt the new dragon ball like 50+ episodes and still going? that should explain where the budget is going. i assume they also figure loads of people will still watch it based solely on the franchise name regardless of quality.
Yeah I guess they're just trying to pump them out as quickly as possible with little regard for quality. It's disappointing.
Yeah, I've seen some discussions on hardcore Dragon Ball fan sites and people have called Toei out for this very sentiment. Which is a shame because DB is such an awesome franchise that one would think the animation studio behind this would put care in this very influential franchise.
Loved the ending to Kiznaiver. Such a great show. Also super happy My Hero Academia is getting a second season.
i was at nyc this weekend and i went to this japanese bookstore which was unreal. the top floor had shelf after shelf of japanese manga releases and they had a somewhat smaller (but really well curated) english manga section. it was everything i dreamed a manga store would be. here is a pic of the stuff i picked up.
Was the store called Kinokuniya? I think my brother recommended that I go there next time I'm in NYC.
yes it was, i highly recommend you check it out they also had a magazine section in the basement floor and a literature section in the first floor. lots of great stuff.
Also as much as I loved Kiznaiver I hope we get another Gurren Lagann/Kill la Kill-esque show at some point.
I just finished Kiznaiver. I didn't love it, but I did enjoy it. It had a nice message and some emotional moments, and visually it was quite interesting/pretty. I'm excited for Trigger's next project. That sounds awesome. I'd definitely pick up some Japanese novels too.
I was just so into everything about it, easily my favourite show of the season and probably an all time favourite now.
I know it may not really count as Anime, but I've been watching the new Voltron series on Netflix and really liking it. Does anyone have anything else in that vein I may really like/should check out?
Nice. Finding new favourites is always great. The anime adaptation of the manga my avatar is from (Amanchu) starts in a little over a week and I'm hoping that'll be a new favourite of mine! Can/should we recommend anime, or are you looking for other Western animated shows?
I don't know about Voltron, but generally, I'd say get Cowboy Bebop and Neon Genesis Evangelion out of the way before newer stuff (that are not necessarily better, but nevertheless potentially influenced by them) ruin your potential enjoyment of those classics.
Ah, okay. In that case, I think I'd be of more use to you if I had a list of some other things you've already seen/liked, as those are my more general "every new anime fan should watch these asap" rec.
Evangelion was like my second anime (outside of DBZ and YuGiOh and stuff) and after that it took me a long while to really get into other stuff because nothing really compared to what that did.
