The new Crunchyroll/Adult Swim anime Fena: Pirate Princess is really good so far. First two episodes were released the other day.
Words Bubble Up Like Soda Pop might be the most colorful thing I've ever seen. The story is pretty bare bones but god damn is it pretty
Just read All You Need Is Kill, and for something only 17 chapters it was a really enjoyable read. Nothing mind blowing, but the art was great and I’m a sucker for a Groundhog Day type story.
You should absolutely watch the anime those pictures look fairly midlevel cosplay to me, but I do like how they adapted Faye's ridiculous costume into something...wearable.
I finished stardust crusaders and yeah second half was way better than the first half the style change for diamond is unbreakable is wild tho
I don't care about Faye's outfit. I care that she looks way too young and short. I'm still of the mindset that 99% of animated material should NOT be adapted to live action.
She's supposedly 23, but that's another big problem I have with anime/manga in general. The ages of so many characters seem so off, especially in older works. In Yu Yu Hakusho, Yusuke is supposedly 14, but looks and acts like he's older. I always think of Faye being taller and at least late 20s because of how her outfit looks on her, her body type (long legs, long torso) and her personality.
Yeah, obviously something as stylized as anime is always going to look whacky when translated. But I thought Faye and Jet translated shockingly well. Spikes costume (and the actual Bebop set) were the things that looked the most “fake” and cosplayish to me. also John Cho is like 50 playing a dude in his 20’s, I can’t really imagine him pulling off these fight scenes believably. pretty low expectations overall
$$$ bby honestly though I find adaptions incredibly fascinating. Even the fairly ordinary slice of life stuff I watch often gets live action adaptations that attempt to mimic the style and it’s wild. I’m relieved that American Evangelion adaptation didn’t happen, but I’m so curious to see how fucked it would’ve been. The Weta Workshop pre-production designs were wild
This has bothered me for a while now, and it's not just an anime thing, now that I think about it. A lot of JRPGs seem to have the same issue in my mind, where characters are aged younger than they're drawn or modeled. I'm not entirely sure why that is, but for my peace of mind, I just frankly tend to just ignore that information.
It’s clearly for two demographics: (1) the youths, for the sake of giving them ostensibly younger characters to relate to even if the personalities of those characters are clearly meant to be older, and of course (2) perverts
Children of the Sea was super amazing? Reminds me of how I felt watching Ghost in the Shell the first time
Just finished the first episode of By Your Eternity and it already crushed me. Been watching a lot of upbeat and fun anime lately so I guess I was overdo for some heartbreak
YES! It’s one of my new all-time favorites. Don’t expect it to be upbeat or fun at all. Still a masterpiece though.
Been watching Girlfriend Girlfriend because I can't be bothered to watch anything that's emotionally draining or requires any thinking at all right now and it's so stupid and harem trash, but surprisingly funny in some ways. Do not think it's good and wouldn't recommend, but thank god there's dumb stuff I can laugh to right now.
I tend to alternate between something more substantial and something more lighthearted because I can only take so much sad stuff. Sometimes you just need to laugh at dumb antics, and sometimes in doing I find something that's better quality than I'm expecting. Anyway, this is one that's been on my radar for the latter purpose. I've seen clips on YouTube and it looks absolutely ridiculous. I also believe it's by the same people who made Aho Girl, another really dumb comedy anime that I found myself enjoying.
