okay, finished the first season of Tomb Raider. it was good! lots of good character moments, and some really cool animation sequences. glad there'll be a second season but Sam is just always getting herself into situations where she needs to be rescued huh? haha I got some queer Lara vibes from this but idk maybe i'm reading too much into it
okay, caught up on Harley. I sort of selfishly wanted more Sirens (particularly Babs) this season but they dumped that plotline very quick. the Woodrue episodes were awesome, they handled that both effectively and efficiently. not sure I like the Lena/Brainy duo of big bad (i'm still attached to them being part of the good guys in CW Supergirl) but i guess we'll have to wait and see. from my admittedly very limited knowledge of Supes villains i always thought Brainy was kinda boring.
Marvel What If...? S2 while i'm not a huge fan of the art style, i feel like the animation constantly justifies itself by portraying things that simply wouldn't translate well in live-action.cgi. first four eps were kinda boring, then everything after was somewhere between good and great. a few of the Avengers' voice-acting performances felt phoned in, ScarJo and Downey aren't even in it, but Hayley Atwell and Jeffrey Wright were consistently good, Rudd and Taika were at least funny, and Cate Blanchett sounded like she was having a blast haha. Love this new Kahhori character.
finished S3 of What If, this one might be my favorite, if only bc there weren't any duds. two-parter finale with all-female team-up was cool as hell. wish we had a whole episode of that version of Storm, what a wasted opportunity. all in all it's mostly a fun show with some poignant episodes, some hilarious episodes, and a few boring episodes. a lot of really neat visuals, especially the cosmic/multiversal shit, but i never really liked the way the lighting(/shading?) looked on the characters' faces, especially in close-ups. aside from that, tho, the costume designs ate
Harley s5e7 well damn, Lena just went full evil. I miss the days when we used to ship her and Kara together. RIP Arrowverse.
Common Side Effects is really good. 5 episodes in, so it's easy to catch up on. From the team behind Scavenger's Reign (which was incredible)
started it the other night I am thoroughly enjoying it. The recaps at the beginning of the episodes are annoying since the episodes are super short
Looking for recommendations for what to watch with my kids next. So far we’ve watched: Avatar: The Last Airbender Avatar: The Legend of Korra The Dragon Prince Voltron: Legendary Defender The Owl House Amphibia Gravity Falls Duck Tales Star vs. The Forces of Evil They like serialized shows with supernatural or science fiction bends to them. They also like a good mystery. I’ve thought about maybe Adventure Time or Steven Universe but wasn’t sure if there might be anything that would go over their heads. Although, there are several shows in the above list I thought that about, but was surprised to find they latched on to pretty quickly. My son is 9 and my daughter turns 7 this summer.
Oh yeah, I forgot to add that to the list. We watched that one a couple years ago and really loved it.
i need to update this list. crossed out the ones for adults early Adventure Time and Steven Universe are okay for those ages. later seasons definitely get more serious, but if they can handle Owl House and Dragon Prince they should be fine
Adventure Time has some pretty wild/fucked up humour at times. here in Aus it's only available in edited versions that remove any reference to sex and that's like 1/3 of some episodes runtime, especially in the early seasons. just throwing that out there if you're looking for more of an Owl House vibe, I really recommend Dead End Paranormal Park. fair warning that some things might be mildly scary for kids and it ends on kind of a cliffhanger because Disney sucks ass
You can’t go wrong with regular show. I watch all the time with my best friend and his nine year old daughter. She’s obsessed with that show and gravity Falls
Ah, I forgot we also watched the Tangled series, which was great. I’ve also thought about trying a superhero series, but I wasn’t sure where to start and I want to have a series with a definitive end. I’ve had Teen Titans recommended, but I know there’s not really an ending because of the cancellation. We thought about getting them started on the Marvel movies last summer, but the violence in Iron Man kind of freaked out my son and I forgot it’s also one of like two movies in the entire series with a sex scene. We didn’t finish the movie and figured we’d come back to it when they were ready. We did show them the older Spider-Man movies with Tobey and Andrew and they enjoyed those (though they did still get a little scared of certain scenes), and we also showed them Wonder Woman, which they loved. Is Infinity Train the show that got removed from all platforms? I remember thinking that sounded cool. I actually forgot I wanted to show them Over the Garden Wall! That’s a good one to check off.
I did see Dead End Paranormal Park and thought that looked cool, but bummer to hear that also got cancelled. My son was really into a Nickelodeon show, Glitch Techs, which is on Netflix, but that also got cancelled.
I do still think DEPP is worth watching, it tells a really beautiful story and there's a musical episode with songs by Patrick Stump. you can't go wrong! Infinity Train is a genuine masterpiece but yeah it's impossible to find now without sailing the high seas, fuck Zaslav. I'd also say that's maybe more of a teen show too, there's some pretty heavy themes and some fairly shocking violence for its animation style. but I recommend it to anyone in this thread nonetheless
i never heard of Norm Of The North before, according to wiki it says 'It was panned by critics and audiences, who consider it one of the worst animated films ever made' it came out in 2016 and holds a 6% on RT this popped up on my youtube just now haha
Sometimes it still kinda blows my mind that Disney technically owns 6 separate animation studios each with a different style and focus.
A new list to add to my old list (but most of these are for adults) Amazon Batman Caped Crusader Hazbin Hotel Max Suicide Squad Isekai Creature Commandos Netflix Tomb Raider The Amazing Digital Circus Dragon Prince Scott Pilgrim I started Castlevania S2 a while ago, need to get back into it and also watch Castlevania Nocturne. Also started watching X-men all the way through for the first time before getting to X-men 97. Also also my friends recommended Cyberpunk Edgerunners and Bee and Puppycat. I feel like I'm forgetting something... Oh! show your kids Nimona if you haven't already
