a completely random aside but related to animation - apparently answered a security question for an important site and it was my favorite cartoon and I am fucked. I have guessed every single cartoon I can recall ever watching in every single type of answer format (kingofthehill / king of the hill / capitalizing every word, some words etc) and nothing. I have googled and read through hundreds of cartoon names, and the stupid site won't give me another security question and I am literally out of cartoons I know, let alone what I would have considered my favorite when I made my site login. Frustrating.
I take these things very seriously and there's no chance that I set up my security question on my 401k as 'Q = What's up? A = Chicken Butt' and had to repeat this to a live person when I got locked out... no... no chance at all. Really though - I don't think I won't goofy answer on this one. Oh well. I'm going to guess it's case / spacing sensitive and there's something I'm just not thinking of but on to calling a human about it. On topic - Flow was really good and I enjoyed it a lot. Beautiful and great pacing / suspense. Definitely not a kids movie though, at least not younger kids and I think those slightly old may find it boring. Still doesn't take anything away from how good it was though. I personally think it deserved the GG win over The Wild Robot which I didn't personally resonate with all that much. It was funny and cute, but my expectations of being a blubbering mess didn't happen.
Surprised I can't find this in Dolby Vision or HDR. But still looks gorgeous in 4K regardless. Really excited for this
Actually, can't decide if I love this or hate this. It's beautiful and well made but the subject matter is so sad haha
Finished. Yeah. That was so beautiful, but so so so fucking dark. My God. I would never show this to a kid Absolutely deserving of the awards it got, though.
The Amazing Digital Circus is good, i like that it's never really explained what's going on. there's a cool balance between horror and comedy, dread and hope. Jax is just an asshole the entire way through, but I ended up really liking all the other characters
Wanted to knock out some Netflix stuff I'd been missing. Started the Tomb Raider series. This happens in between the first two games of the new trilogy?
hmm, redditors say it takes place after Shadow but kinda ignores the events of Shadow and Rise? so like a sequel to TR2013 without really being canon to the rest of the trilogy
I don't know about that, I haven't seen it, but I'm reading the show references the organization from the second two games, so maybe not ignoring so much as they're not important to the narrative? I don't think events need to be referenced a bunch of times to have still happened.
paused watching Tomb Raider halfway through bc I suddenly decided to get the Max/D+/Hulu bundle. sooo i watched Creature Commandos i tried writing my review as paragraphs but it kept becoming a jumbled up mess so here's this instead Creature Commandos pros: -great character backstories, more emotionally resonant -connected to previous (and future) Gunn projects cons: -too short, present-day storyline felt underdeveloped -idk some of it's like just really fucking depressing haha Suicide Squad Isekai pros: -more episodes, more fleshed out political conflict -hyperstylized anime silliness, simply more fun cons: -more bickering, which got annoying after a while -too many antagonists, too many characters in general
first three of S3 of Invincible were good, which is no surprise. a little annoyed that Levy didn't actually fucking die. but after reading some comic spoilers i guess i'm okay with him coming back. over and over again. ...it's kinda his thing. the arc where Mark fights multiple evil versions of himself sounds crazy
S3 has been great so far. One minor gripe with the Invincible show is I wish they hired less big name actors (except JK Simmons) and spent a bit more of that money on the animation. They were cooking with the Eve special, just wish that quality would translate to the main show.
does invincible get better as it goes on? i watched the first two episodes of the first season and it just seems like a story I've seen so many times. my best friend hyped it up, but those episodes didn't make me want to keep watching it.
short answer: yes. long answer: these days there are more and more hyperviolent superhero shows/movies popping up everywhere. a lot of them are bloody just to be edgy, like many scenes from The Boys. while yes, The Boys does get more political as it goes on, the family drama at the center of Invincible is consistently emotionally resonant, I'd say from the very beginning, but especially towards the end of the first season. I think if you enjoyed Creature Commandos you should enjoy Invincible. just finish the first season at the very least
i love the boys but invincible didn't do anything for me, plus the animation for what it could be isn't. maybe i'll pick up where i left off.
the animation is good during the big fights, and mayhaps not so good when it's just two people talking hah... the first season finale is iconic, tho. don't miss out.
