im gonna do it a ton right now, but my first time doing it with around 20 fish bait netted me about 27k bells if I sold it to the store

 

I don’t know if it increases the chance but it spawns fish in that spot and some fish are only found in specific locations. Like the dock or at the river springs on the cliffs.
