I've just been taking the reds I get from crossbreeding oranges and purples. Those oranges and purples were all made from seeds.

Been throwing out all the reds that come from the red patch.

You can also mail the recipe DIY cards

 

You can buy the DIYs for the fences multiple times through the Nook miles store. It’ll prompt you with a reminder that you already know the recipe when you go to buy one again.
