Tom was filming/directing his “Strange Times” movie over the spring/summer. Pandemic or not the album was never going come out in 2020 especially with the 2nd part of the AVA tour that was supposed to take place before it got cancelled. Plus he recorded and released a song in April.
If anything, Tom totally took advantage of the pandemic to take more time with the album haha. Especially with the pressure he was getting from his management to complete the album before the pandemic happened.
I just hope the extra time doesn't translate to overthinking things too much like Dream Walker. Where some of the demos / lyrics were a bit better than what was chosen for the final songs.
I may be misremembering, but I could've sworn that in March they said they had 10 songs tracked, and they just needed to do mixing. Then the pandemic hit, Tom wrote and recorded All That's Left of Love in a couple of weeks, and then later in the year said that in the down time they wrote a couple more songs and are reworking the tracklist. It's Tom we're talking about, so it wouldn't surprise me that he'd take any excuse to delay the album. But I think a big part of it too is Rise Records. They got this new signing, probably the biggest name they have on their roster right now (next to AFI), and they wanna capitalize on it, so they're delaying it to coincide with a tour.
To his credit, the last 4 AVA singles have shown better songwriting/production than anything he's made since 2006. My expectations are high for this one, but yeah I don't need to see any more hype tweets from him. Just drop a damn single and album date already!
For me: Rebel girl- fun Kiss and tell- fine All that’s left is love- ... a song that happened. I had to look it up on Spotify to remember the name.
His last three songs have been pretty forgettable to me. I can’t remember what they said like or even the last time I listened to them.
Rebel Girl is his best song in I don't know how long, and I really like Kiss and Tell too. I'm really optimistic for this album
Yeah Rebel Girl is probably the only song from Tom i’ve enjoyed since probably something off Neighborhoods
I feel like lyrics are distractingly bad on Rebel Girl, despite it being pretty catchy. Kiss & Tell sounds like three songs playing at once, but I do return to it the most of the 3. All That’s Left Is Love ... nope. I honestly feel like I enjoy the EDM remix the most lol
Stoked for this song based on the two clips so far. Gotta say I like the tonality of the synths they've been using lately.
Sounds fairly heavy, yeah, which is promising. Not crazy about some of the lyrical stuff I’ve heard in some of these teasers though, if I’m honest...
