I'm like pretty sure that the biggest reason they're not playing Secret Crowds, The War or The Gift is because Tom can't sing the choruses of those songs live lol
They had to drop Secret Crowds a step and a half down. There's one live video of it in D that is painful to watch.
yeah that's what i said earlier, the songs they kept that have high notes already sound painful enough. actually i don't think he ever sang the chorus to "The Gift" like the studio version.
Not my video, but I think I had the most fun to Rebel Girl on Friday night... it’s just such a good time. Also... Tom @ 1:24 lol, wait for it...
yup, it's the way he always sang it, not even attempting the impossibly high note at "i'll stOP the storm if IT RAAAAIns" and doing this kind of low crescendo? i like it, it's a good workaround. wonder if he's at least tried to do it again for this tour
I think he's made up a different story for this every night lol, at my show he said they were hiking up a mountain and made a guitar with a stick and shoelaces
If I’m remembering correctly, at the FL gig, I think Tom said he and Ilan were deep in the Afghan desert, running from the Taliban and they took shelter in a cave because it was hot, but still wasn’t as hot as it is in Orlando (that’s right... remembering as I go along lol), and Ilan wrote him a love song...
Oh how I remember patiently waiting for a torrent to finish downloading at a friends house so we could watch Start The Machine before it came out. Once the file was done, I had opened it up and skimmed to a random part and hit play. The live performance of The Adventure started playing and my friend was so upset, "YOU SPOILED IT, MY GOD YOU SPOILED IT."
Didn't see the video at first and thought he might have played Ghosts in his Medley at a show. Top 5 blink song IMO.
Same. Love the lyrics at the end. Wish Tom did more of this distant vocoder effect on some other songs too.
To me, it’s not even about the lyrics... it’s like the build and atmosphere, the deep bass swells... the electronics... it just brings out some deep emotions and nostalgia, triggers a lot of significant memories for me. It’s in the sounds...
they shortened the shows for the last three or four nights, probably because tom had a sore throat (or something like that), but i always wonder if he's just completely over touring and is doing this one out of some contractual obligation. every once in a while i think to myself that if he just went and canceled all future shows i wouldn't be that surprised lol
He mentioned before this tour he had accepted he may never play live music again. I'm not positive what changed there but I think the success of this tour has actually made him reconsider something like that. I know some people are citing his sister forcing him to do this tour but I don't think Tom does anything unless he wants to as evidenced by quitting blink numerous times. Also, he said because of his sore throat he was sipping whiskey the last few shows and the banter before the acoustic songs got interesting because of that, I gotta search for some videos lol.
I think he's being totally sincere in how much he's been enjoying playing on this tour. I think people are really off base when they think he's 'in it for the money' if that was the case he'd still be in blink.
I feel like he’s been pretty humbled by the turnout tbh... seems like he’s gotten emotional on several occasions at the end of shows. I mean, to be more or less “out of the game” for 7 years, little to no promo, and then to have sold out shows basically every night on the comeback tour, and still have that impact with fans... that’s gotta be pretty special. ...especially with all the negativity he’s faced in the last few years too. People thinking he went crazy and all that... It’s probably pretty easy to think that people would’ve stopped caring, or whatever. It’s like, “Nahhh Tom, you’re a freaking legend...”
He's been sick. He mentions it during one of the medley from the past shows. I wouldn't read too much into it. Seems like he's been having fun connecting with fans again.
I'm guessing he makes more with blink being successful and active than when he was in blink and didn't actually want to do anything lol
