Listened to WDNTW, I-Empire, and Dream Walker this weekend. All I could think of is that this bands entire discography is timeless. Everything has aged well so far.
I have a special place in my heart for I-Empire and Love Pt 1. The right albums at the right times when I was younger.
so excited. already love the look of it. hopefully it comes out today, that'd be a great Tuesday haha
listening to a bunch of AVA since Kiss and Tell came out. always forget how great The Dream Walker really is. also, haven't seen in mentioned in the underrated listing of songs, but Home on ...Of Nightmares is a gem.
AVA doing residencies in cities playing through all their albums like AK3 did a while back would be incredible. WDNTW / IE one night, LOVE 1&2 another night, and DW + the EPs another would be so killer.
Man I think that EP totally passed me by unless just haven't listened since it came out. Really cool song. The last half is so good.
"View From Below" is an underrated AvA cut, really cool vibes that you don't really hear elsewhere in their discography
"Into the Night" is my main takeaway from that EP but I certainly appreciate the experimental vibes. "Parasomnia" could have been something special if they hadn't just lopped off four more minutes of vocals
if we're talking EPs a case could be made for "Diary" being the best song Tom has ever written. i mean it. don't @ me
oh man best AVA song very possibly. that song absolutely nailed the build and release of tension that they were trying to perfect but never did for three whole albums. the "breathe" vocal coming in gives me shivers tbh
I remember wanting We Don't Need To Whisper but never going out to buy it. I was able to get my hands on a burned copy from a woman I knew while we were at a drag strip one Friday night(this was the weekly bring your own car and race it event - yeah, super "southern"). What a fateful night. I-Empire brings me back to a time after highschool when I reconnected with my HS sweetheart and we ended up having a fling for a summer/half year or so. That kinda ended with some weird dram with her dad where me and him hated each other and blah blah. Now we ride bikes and run together. So strange. It was all good times(except for the weird dad stuff). I listened to Love initially, but it didn't click with me after a few listens. I didn't' give anything after much of a chance. I don't think I've even listened to Dreamwalker or anything after aside from Rebel Girl. I have 2 days off. Time for some AVA.
I am loving these two new songs. They're still AVA but with a little more energy. I’m also loving the synth and guitar mix. The mix is just right and not too blended together like in a lot of production these days. Both instruments still stand alone and work together rather than as one. Can’t wait to hear what’s next.
Love the direction of the new songs. Same AVA style only slightly less synth and slightly more guitar. And neither song overstays it's welcome......unlike pre-Dream Walker AVA where Tom thought the longer the song the better.
It was definitely the closest a new AVA song came to making me feel as The Adventure the first time I heard it. I think Tom dug deep to honor the Engineer that helped them hone in on their sound. Wasn't that EP in honor of him?
