I’ll never forget seeing them live for the first time when they toured with Weezer in 08... They opened with Heaven and during that little lead-in midway through (right where the dog bark happens in the studio mix), Atom threw a drumstick straight up like 10 feet over his head, flipping end over end, and he caught it crashing into the washy hats in the bridge. I was like WHAT...
I’m kind of glad at the first show it seemed like he was just being himself and doing his thing. I don’t need him going on about human connection and spreading his “AVA message.” Just have a good time and play the songs.
I thought the chorus was actually a prechorus going into something huge. These aren’t striking me as hard as the Dreamwalker singles but I’m still excited.
i was so surprised by the setlist that i barely even noticed the lack of "The War", "Secret Crowds" and "Call to Arms". definitely would include those in place of KWAS, "Anomaly" and "Breathe"
Watch Tom DeLonge cover Blink 182's 'Aliens Exist' and 'I Miss You' This thread will get a kick out of this headline I'm sure, enjoy
For some reason it bugs me that he has been saying that he started this band 12 years ago. When it's been 14.
watching the videos from the show and the guitars sound sooo thin. "Heaven" should feel larger than life. dunno if it's even possible to replicate that huge studio sound though
I mean, at least he's not DI-ing the speaker outs from Vox & Fender Amps with shitty distortion pedals and no speaker emulation anymore. But yeah, I think Tom is using a Line 6 Helix, which is the first time he hasn't used a tube amp live, which is probably a steep learning curve.
Are you talking about this video? That probably has more to do with being shot from the side of the stage. I’d like to see one from the middle of the crowd and see if it sounds better.
So I watched all the tour live videos from the current tour. Man, I want this tour to come to Europe so bad. Tom and the rest of the band sound so good. I'm pretty sure this is the best AVA has ever sounded live. Ilan and Matt Rubano sing all the harmonies, Tom even sings the high parts (like in Heaven).
