Glad you dig it that much. I'd put it below all of the NINE tracks released so far, but I still enjoy it well enough.
The character in the video has a 100% chance of hurting a women one day. I thought he was at least just imagining it before the end, but nope dude literally sprayed his blood all over her bedroom cause she just wants to be friends. Idk how this is anything less than disturbingly psychopathic?
Ok, 1. He has had 0% chance of hurting a woman, bc he’s fictional. 2. I think him beating himself up in the video is symbolic for how he feels inside emotionally/feels stupid of himself. I saw it as more of dark/violent humor, and find It very bizarre/worrying that some of y’all watch this and immediately come to the conclusion that he wants to kill/beat up that woman or any woman, and compare him to incels capable of committing massacres
I mean, homeboy shouldn't have looked in her diary in the first place, and none of the characters in the video are sympathetic and it's all kinda fucked up. I feel ashamed for all the actors involved. The ending scene is incredibly problematic, but like-- it really rubbed me the wrong way how they played self-harm for laughs. The dude's outburst was just unnecessarily triggering for me to watch, and I really wish they just kept it as a cliche teenage romance film. Or better, they just stay friends, cause that can be cute too! Idk, it's just really sad to think a band that's done such great concept pieces on love, the human conditon, unity, and being yourself, would make something as inane and misguided as this video.
You know the phrase "he's beating himself up over this"? I assumed the video was just taking that phrase literally. So yeah, it is what it is. But the video was still bad. Reminded me of something you'd see on a emo/pop punk record label's DVD compilation of music videos, haha.
Because we read the news, at least weekly now, about this depicted behavior leading exactly to this outcome?
Harassing a woman, to the point of self-harm (in itself a common abusive tactic), because she only wants to be friends and had the gall to date someone else is practically textbook misogyny.
Wish it didn’t validate that kind of creepy, predatory, dangerous behavior. art does have real world implications, but no, we don’t actually have to worry about this specific character lol. Just the hundreds of thousands like him that actually do exist. Really surprisingly bad video
