"the skateboard AYND my shit guitar, I dreamed all day that they would get me far. My dad would ask me about my grades, the asshole sports that I never played"...lyrically, I-Empire is the worst AVA record lol
Wonder what the theme of this album will be? Also people can shit on the Love albums all they want, IMO they are easily the most fun to play on guitar.
Rite of Spring probably wouldn’t be the song I’d use to vindicate the worst lyrics of that album. That song was pretty much one of the last songs he wrote about his literal life and a positive spin on what he refers as a “shitty, fucked up upbringing.”
that's the most blink song in the AVA discography, followed closely by It Hurts. I don't hate this song by any means, I don't know, just feel like in terms of Angels & Airwaves it feels out of place. Then again, in context, I-Empire is Tom freshly rehabilitated off of a painkiller addiction and the band just went through kicking Sinn out and bringing Matt in, so things were all kind of new again in a sense.
maybe I'm nitpicking here but what makes you like Chasing Shadows so much and hate TDW when the former sounds like a continuation of the latter?
also imo Love 1 is absolutely godawful and maybe the worst full length release Tom ever worked on, but 2 was a huge step up and brought us closer to him scrapping all the annoying long outros and shit. I say this every time but The Revelator is such a fucking banger
that's fair, but the songwriting basically seems to stem from the same place to me. Voyager and Overload basically follow on from Bullets/Teenagers etc and Artillery and Chasing Shadows are sequels to Kiss With a Spell and The Disease (the last of which has one of my favourite Tom choruses honestly)
This, and the songs are just better IMO. They feel more like Tom and AFAIK Ilan just came in to drum on it.
I actually like how TDW sounds like a Tom + Ilan project, it has a really distinct vibe from other AVA albums and Ilan was obviously pretty essential to getting Tom to drop the prog rock bullshit. I do understand where you're coming from though I love the Chasing Shadows songs have unconventional/multipart choruses. Or in the case of Artillery doesn't really have a chorus at all. I hope the new music has stuff like that
"YOUR BEST FRIEND IS NOT MARK HOPPUS! STILL HURTS STILL HURTS STILL HURTS STILL HURTS STILL HURTS STILL HURTS STILL HURTS STILL HURTS STILL HURTS STILL HURTS STILL HURTS STILL HURTS STILL HURTS STILL HURTS STILL HURTS STILL HURTS STILL HURTS STILL HURTS STILL HURTS STILL HURTS STILL HURTS STILL HURTS STILL HURTS STILL HURTS STILL HURTS STILL HURTS STILL HURTS STILL HURTS STILL HURTS STILL HURTS"
I think it's a good fit for them. They have some big bands on there and some solid infrastructure for a successful release cycle. Plus being under BMG now, they have access to those resources as well that TTS doesn't have.
NOW it’s for real a new song and not some bullshit Tom DeLonge announcement about an announcement shenanigans. Very, very interested to hear this.
Rise Records has been around since 1991! Who DOESN'T know about Rise?! (i'm a smartass and i apologize)
