When I saw the Smashing Pumpkins on their last US tour, they played at our big arena (where the Utah Jazz play bouncy ball) and I bought nosebleed seats because I didn't want to pay an arm and a leg for the better seats. But obviously they didn't sell enough tickets to fill an arena, so they closed off the upper bowl completely and moved us all down to the lower bowl, which was rad.
Yeah I remember that tour being way too ambitious lol. Thanks everyone for the responses! I hope the tour is still financially successful, really just for the rest of the band and crew. Tom I’m sure is doing fine lol
Did you happen to say to somebody in the crowd that you had the business idea of someone coming around and charging a dollar to take empty beer cups from people in the pit or something like that lol? There was a dude near me in the pit dancing his absolute heart out all night and he said that to me
NYC was a great show. Tom did sound good. Last time I saw AVA was at bamboozle 10 years ago?? Seemed like they rushed the last 4 songs due to curfew. Would have loved I miss you or Start the machine. Tom legit made me and my gf cry talking about his dad and his struggle with cancer. Great show, happy I went.
I’ve been a huge fan of this album era. Not only is the album dope but I’ve really enjoyed how real and honest Tom has been. I’ve tried to catch every Podcast he’s been on recently as I just enjoy the dude speak about music, UFOs and real life shit.
That talk about his dad was so emotional! It gave me goosebumps. And it was crazy how as he went on with the story the place got quieter and quieter until eventually all 4,000 people were silently listening. Show was awesome! I was worried it wasn't gonna sell well, but that floor was beyond packed. I've been to a lot of shows at Hammerstein, and it definitely felt like they oversold the floor. Looked like the balconies were full too. Tom sounded really great, and that set list basically had everything I'd ask for. Just bummed that they cut the There Is/I Miss You medley. Automatic and Losing My Mind sounded great live, and the crowd was really into the new stuff.

Is Rubano like tiny? He looked like a kid on stage next to Tom and especially David, and now in that pic with Matt Wachter lol
when i saw them a few weeks ago, my view of david was kind of blocked. i saw that matt was on a riser, so i assumed david was too since he looked EXTRA tall. (i couldn't see his feet.) but then i eventually moved more to the middle, and that dude wasn't standing on a riser at all! giant man. makes tom look normally tall, haha.
I saw Matt walk into the venue the other day, and he was approximately my height (5"7) so seeing as Tom is 6"3 that makes sense
I once asked David how tall he was. He told me "like 6'6" - 6'7"". I'm 6'0" and he felt like a giant next to me.
Yeah wow that kiss and demo is unreal. The transitions are rough between sections but it's basically a blink/boxcar song without all the effects / polish they added for the final. Also digging how the lyrics are more government / alien focused haha.
Maybe it's because I just watched Donnie Darko for Halloween but I think the Timebomb chorus would be stronger if he didn't repeat "sad" twice: Hey there little sad girl I really want to hold you Your heart is like a time bomb And it's going to start to kill you But in such a very MAD world There are still things to discover It's possible to hang on Cause your story isn't over Could also have used "bad" instead of sad too or changed the first line to something else and kept "Sad" world. Shower thoughts for today, haha.
I’m glad it seems like this full tour will have happened without any covid cases/canceled dates within the band and crew. Guess there are still a few dates left, so I hope I’m not speaking too soon haha.
I'm hoping they do something a little special with the hometown show at Soma and 2 LA dates to end the tour.
Would be cool to see Mark come out and maybe do a blink song where they both sing if he’s feeling heathy and up to it.
