I listened to it again just yesterday, and today I couldn’t tell you how any of it goes. It’s just sort of there for me. That’s kind of how I feel about all of the new songs, tbh
Yeah, this is kind of a redo and mashup of several songs he’s written before. Definitely the weakest of the bunch. Also, Tom sounds pretty bad, at least at the beginning.
Bought tickets to the Dallas show. I am also supposed to get surgery that week so let see if I actually get to go.
The first verse barely even sounds like him. It's like either someone doing an impression of him or him doing an impression of someone else.
I dunno, I like Restless Souls a whole lot more than Euphoria and Kiss & Tell. I think all the new songs are great, though.
I like all the new songs but they dont 'hit' me the same way that the previous albums did... so far...
Wow, they sold out that Hollywood Palladium show and added a second night. That place holds like 4,000 people. Good for them!
I got a ticket for the Chicago show on 10/9 they added today. I’m excited to see them play a proper headliner for the album now!
I’m surprised they added a second Palladium show tbh. Especially since the riverside show hasn’t sold out yet. But I don’t really know the Southern California market that well. Either way, awesome for them and I hope the second show sells well!
Originally that said “Live with Ilan,” and still says so in the Transmission Schedule. I’m wondering if “First Listen” is a mistake.
Here is my write up from Ilan's Live IG Session last night... Did anyone catch him on the Empire Club? A recap of last nights Instagram live with Ilan Rubin: -His favorite Angels album is either Dream Walker or Lifeforms (obviously) -he doesn’t recall the first original song Tom and him completed -he doesn’t believe any of the songs from the EPs will be added to the set list (maybe he was just talking about Of Nightmares) -on both EPs he barely remembers recording for them, he was crazy busy and only recorded drums. The instruments are played by Tom and his brother Aaron -it was Tom’s idea to kick off the set list with Diary a few years back, all roads lead to Tom! -he doesn’t have much of a say in the set list creation but reiterated that songs like The Adventure and It Hurts will always be present because at this point they have a feel for what works live -Ilans role for tour prep is making sure everyone sticks somewhat to the rehearsal schedule and that these songs sound show ready. He also does vocal warmups with Tom to get his voice ready for shows. -Ilans favorite guitar of Tom’s is one we probably have not seen. I forget which model he mentioned. -asked him about the songs that weren’t completed in time for Lifeforms. Said he’s eager to complete and release them. it’s very hard for Tom to focus on completing the album and all the material in a fixed amount of time because he’s always focusing on so many things. Ilan has a very different approach to music where all the music from one cycle should be finished and established for release in 1 go. -I asked Ilan why the new Angels music sounds so much grittier (from a mixing and engineering perspective) than his solo work (also recorded by his brother Aaron)…. He pretty much said it wasn’t true and I needed new speakers lol -Ilans harmonies on euphoria were requested by Tom and the influence was Queen -Ilans busy hi-hat work is often present because Tom encourages a similar style of play of The Police’s Stewart Copeland -Ilan doesn’t need to apply music theory to Angels writing because he knows what area of sound sounds pleasing to Tom -tom and Ilan often disagree on ideas but he said the scope of what each party is comfortable with is widening and we will hear this on Lifeforms -he has bumped into the Blink guys in the past. Says last time was when they were in the space next door rehearsing while Ilan was with NIN -he wished Mark well -he doesn’t understand why Travis continues to bleed from drumming, says calluses should have prevented this long ago -has his first co-write / co-produce credit releasing soon with Oliver Tree (funny because Oliver previously collaborated with Mark Hoppus) Ilan’s Music Influence and Taste: -his favorite Beatles album is Revolver -he isn’t a huge fan of The Mars Volta and psychedelic rock in general but if he had to pick a favorite record of theirs, it would be the first album -he doesn’t listen to Kanye West -favorite band is Led Zeppelin, and of course his favorite drummer is Bonham -loves the Police, in 6th grade his love of the band began -thinks the harmonies of The Beach Boys (Brian Wilson) are the best and most complex of all time beating out Queen and The Beatles
I asked Ilan about Denver Harbor on Instagram live about a year ago and he said he doesn’t remember anything about it. I was like what really? He must have been all over the place for some time now.
