  1. Both were perfect. Hope these creators get to make something else in this universe.

It’s easier for me to rank arcs than it is to rank seasons. My number 1 is the Ghorman massacre arc in S2 and number 2 is the Aldhani crew in season 1.

In general I think season 1 is the more thrilling overall because the bulk of it is a heist movie followed by a prison break movie lol. But Season 2 feels richer and more interesting as it really gets deep into what a revolution looks like from every angle.

The disadvantage of season 2 is that it needs to end by laying the track for a movie that already exists and so the ending suffers a bit from “putting the chess pieces where they’re supposed to be” — but even that was handled as perfectly as it could have been.

Could be recency bias, but I think s2 hit way higher highs.

  5. I get the vibe from Tony Gilroy that he is done with Star Wars lol.

  7. Like, I'm desperately hoping Star Wars is looking at Andor and Skeleton Crew as their canaries in the coalmine for storytelling. Either a fun space adventure for the whole family, or more robust, nuanced storytelling that really dives into the themes of the franchise.

i hope so too. heard a highly unverified rumor a while back that some folks at Lucasfilm (mainly Filoni) don't like Andor because it doesn't fit tonally/story-wise with their other projects, appearing almost jealous that people consider Andor "the good one", that it only got made because Gilroy is long-time friends with Kennedy. but on the other hand, this feels somewhat like bullshit to me since Disney is rallying as much support as possible to get this into Emmy consideration, repeatedly highlighting reviews that call it the best Star Wars to date. i think they know that they have a critical hit on their hands, and that to just dive back into the interconnected New Republic Filoni-verse exclusively will curb that momentum. i don't think we'll get a ton of projects in the same vein as Andor, but i do think they're starting to see that demand exists for that latter category of storytelling.

He did an interview on House of R where he said some really interesting things about the direction of Lucasfilm and that they're looking at interesting routes to take the franchise. I have hope it will be good but doubts it'll ever be this good again. I hope Starfighter surprises me because my expectations are in the center of the earth for that movie.

This sounds like something you read on a Google News Andor search screen. I wouldn't put any stock in such unverified rumors, I'm sure that Filoni loves it.

it was supposedly said in a House of R interview (who you just mentioned in an above post) by Joanna Robinson, who had heard it secondhand from others close to/who've pitched ideas to Lucasfilm. granted, i think i first heard about it on Reddit and i first found a link to the interview on a questionable fan website, but it is something she says in the interview. again, i lean towards it probably being bullshit to some sort of degree since it's one insider saying something she's heard secondhand, which is why i called it a "highly unverified" rumor. but i wouldn't share it if it was only being touted by a fan website/clickbait farm, since there's video of her saying just as much.

“I heard that they heard” is hardly worth repeating to anyone.

again, never said i believed what she was saying (i usually take these things with a massive grain of salt). just figured i'd ponder the extent that Lucasfilm/Filoni would consider more projects like Andor down the line beyond streaming metrics (since most live-action shows we've gotten are locked into the New Republic era). just felt like an interesting jumping-off point.

Hell, I’d even look at Mando season 1 as a good example they should follow. Not every episode was a knock out, but it stood on its own and was a fun adventure of the week show. Season two is when it started to get bogged down by the need to cram it into the larger universe.

S2 worked well though. And removing Grogu from the show was a necessary thing. The show had become the “let’s cut to Grogu reacting in a a cute way” show. But then they reversed that in between seasons. S3 was rough.

S2 is the best season of Mando. even if it was undone in future stories, it told an interesting story about questioning your religious conditioning while giving every episode's plot purpose for the grander mission of the season. half of season 1 is just introducing a few characters with minor relevance to the current plot (until some of them show up in future seasons) before getting back to the overarching story in episode 7. the show works better when it's not following a mission of the week format but also knows what to do with all of its loose threads, and S2 does this better than S1 and S3

Almost forgot The Book of Boba Fett was a thing til just now

  18. Andor, rebels, some clone wars arcs, and maybe the bad batch are shows I’ll revisit. I’ll probably never watch mando, acolyte, obi wan, boba fett, skeleton crew (not that it was bad but definitely a one and done for me) or ahsoka (depending on how season 2 ends up) again.

Definitely interested in the maul show because that’s one character I think the cartoons do a good job with expanding.

but not much to look forward to on the Star Wars front for me.

    there is one way out

    I think mine goes:

    1. Narkina 5
    2. Funeral
    3. Gorman Massacre
    4. Final Arc
    5. Aldhani
    6. Andors Recruitment
    7. Ghorman 1
    8. 1 year later

Honestly the first 4-5 are pretty interchangeable.

I do also overall like season 2 of Mando, don’t get me wrong. I pretty much loved it (right up to Uncanny Luke), but it’s definitely where the problems with making the shows all interconnected started.

I mean, the only show that was bad and was connected to Mando was BOBF. Ahsoka is connected because she was in both shows and that’s it. Although I do suspect the movie that ends this story will have Mando and Ahsoka w/Rebels crew. Zeb is in the movie next year.

The Acolyte, Obi-Wan, Skeleton Crew… not connected. Andor, not connected. I guess the shorter way to say all this is to ask, is the problem in the room here with us right now? Haha

My point is, there’s really two shows connected still. BOBF was dead on arrival with how they just gave Mando and Grogu their own episodes and then a major role in the finale. I would be shocked if BOBF ever came back. And yea, there was the Cara Dune show that didn’t happen. So it could have been more, but seems unfair to include it as it was never made thanks to what’s her face.

i could've sworn they said that Skeleton Crew was connected (albeit not as much as BOBF and Ahsoka)? could be wrong though

Not that I can recall. I was surprised that the X-wing pilots at the end of SC weren’t any we had seen before. I think it is in the same time or so, it’s possible they could connect it. But not yet, unless I’m missing something.

  25. Here’s what I don’t get:

They blow up the Death Star and that’s all fine and good, but the empire still knows where they are and has like 8,500,00 more star destroyers and a Darth Vader. Why the hell are they having a medal ceremony on Yavin??
