Just changing the facebook picture is one thing, but blanking the website and putting that pic up? Yeah, something better be happening.
I'm trying really hard not to get too hype and it's not really working. So yeah whatever is going on I'm so down.
I’d honestly be happy with a new album or short run of shows and nothing more. Wouldn’t mind Anberlin being one of those bands who officially ends it but keeps going in some form or fashion every so often.
What’s happening?! Boooiiiiii Geeze I love Anberlin. Not even mad if they made some new tunes or got back together for a tour or something. Gonna listen to them the rest of the day, break out the vinyl box set and spin some extra rotations toniiiiight
I'd have to say that The Haunting is my favorite song since it was the intro I was given to Anberlin. Hate the guy who got me into them, but I will love this band foreverrrr.
I know they did the whole farewell deal and it might rub people the wrong way if they came back.... But Thrice did the same thing. I traveled to see one of their farewell tours, got a ton of merch including a Farewell poster and have their Anthology album they put out in both cd and Vinyl just to have everything I could from a band I love. Since they have been back they have released 2 amazing albums and seen them twice live and am so glad they are back. I don't regret going all out for their farewell. That is kind of how I would see this. It'd be worth it to have them back.
If there is still some music left in Anberlin, I'm sure they will do it. They could wake up one day and go "fuck, i have a whole album in my head...lets do this shit."
Underoath did the same thing too. Honestly not really surprised anymore when bands that say they are done forever come back. It just happens alot. People have changes of heart.
I think the difference is that Thrice made it clear at the time that they were going on hiatus and planned to come back but they just weren't sure when or in what fashion. Pretty sure Anberlin specifically said something along the lines of not wanting to be one of those bands who says they're going away but come back less than 5 years later.
I'm not saying a reunion isn't happening now or won't happen, I'm just saying that accounts for the difference in how those reunions are perceived. Personally, I don't care what they said when the hiatus was announced. Things change, people change, shit happens.
Revisiting some of their records today since I saw this on Facebook and wow.. Vital is still insanely good.. but Lowborn is mostly bad. I would say the only songs that are solid are “Stranger Ways”, “Velvet Covered Brick”, and “Losing it All”.
Vital and Cities are top tier. I think the way lowborn was recorded was bad (recorded different instruments with different people, band wasn't together a lot of the time) which makes it sound like an inconsistent record. The songs are there for the most part though.
