ME TOO! Hahaha. I thought that for the first couple years and it blew my mind when I found out it was "God" instead. I still hear "got death in your family" out of habit. This is quite possibly the most obscure nitpick ever, but I still wonder why he didn't sing "God, life, death, and your family" instead of "life, God, death, and your family."
That would have avoided the confusion probably. I feel like Stephen regretting this probably the main reason the band broke up.
Band mates - "Stephen, I swear its ok if people think you said Got instead of God. The song still works and people love it!" Stephen - "Lies. This band is over!"
If I remember correctly, in the behind the scenes DVD on the special edition of Cities there is footage of Joey trying to get Stephen to change the lyric “We’re not questioning God. Just those he chose to carry on his cross” to something else to fit the music better. Can’t remember what it was but I just remember Stephen saying how it completely changed the meaning. Yadayadayada anyways this conversation just made me think of that.
because then its "god, life and death, and your family" i always assumed he was saying "carry on his song." i prefer that to cross this made me lol
That line does seem to be crammed in a little bit. If I remember he starts to sing over himself at that part because the line is too long. That must be frustrating for a singer to have lyrics you really like but it doesn't work the way you want it to. I still never had an issue with it though.
Got curious and it turns out it’s on YouTube. Pretty cool / nostalgic watch. The part I was referring to was around 24:10.
I don't have time to do all three but I did a 'gold' playlist: 1. Self-Starter 2. Little Tyrants 3. Stranger Ways 4. A Whisper and A Clamor 5. The Unwinding Cable Car 6. Disappear 7. Time & Confusion 8. Alexithimya 9. Audrey, Start The Revolution 10. Modern Age 11. Dismantle. Repair. 12. (*Fin) That was pretty tough and I'm surprised how it turned out. The first three were easy choices but a lot of my favourite Anberlin tracks are at the beginning of their albums. The last three were easy too. It's the middle that was hard. Did not expect to see Disappear or Audrey in this. And I wasn't sure what to stick in 5 as well. Hmm... interesting game. Good idea!
We have very similar lists! Six are on my 'gold' playlist and I could make a case for any of the others being on that playlist too (except for Audrey, which I still really, really like).
Don’t see how taking out “on” changes the meaning but cool to see discussion get that focused and for the artist to win out haha
