And with a final vote, Dismantle. Repair. once again holds off (*Fin) to the tune of 14-13! Dismantle. Repair. is our Anberlin Bracket Challenge Champion! Sorry for the delay, I think I have the flu and have been asleep lol Thank you everyone for participating for dozens of pages, especially for the great discussion which is why we do these in the first place. I know I had a lot of fun revisiting one of my favorite bands and I hope you all did too! See y’all in the senses fail bracket.
Sorry you are sick! Thanks for running this, it was a fun few weeks! The finals for every album were all great and I was happy that Little Tyrants and Paperthin got a bunch of love!
Oh for sure. I think Dismantle is worthy though. Anything off Lowborn or most of Dark is the Way and Path is the Light would have stung probably.
My thoughts as well. I don't necessarily agree with the winner, but at least it's a song that ranks in my Anberlin Top 10 (probably #6) and not something completely ridiculous.
I love the outcome of this. I think Dismantle. Repair really is my favorite Anberlin song and it sums up the band's core sound about as well as any song of theirs.
I think that may be true. I love their faster paced songs better like Paperthin, Tyrants, Feel Goo, Self Starter......but that really isn't what this band is. Only a few songs per album were ever really real rockers. Dismantle has it all.
Exactly. I love how Dismantle marries the heaviness of those songs with the softness of their ballads.
If Fin hadn't already lost to Dismantle before I wouldn't have minded as much, really wanted it to pull out the (Fin)al win. But no complaints, great down to the wire last match up. This was a fun bracket and I loved revisiting their full discography. What a great band with some amazing albums.
I had a great time relistening to some of these songs. Thank you and congrats on a well executed bracked!
Thanks again for organising this. I've really enjoyed talking about the songs and diving back into their music in an intentional way.
So just to keep this thread moving... I came up with a fun/interesting system the other day for my favorite Anberlin songs/albums. Make three playlists (12 songs, 11 songs, and 10 songs) of your favorite Anberlin tracks with the first playlist being your favorite, second your next favorite, and so on. The twist is the songs MUST appear on the playlist track order the same as they do on their respective albums. Unfortunately, this excludes b-sides. Gold Playlist: 1. Self-Starter 2. Paperthin Hymn 3. Other Side 4. A Whisper & a Clamor 5. Atonement 6. Pray Tell 7. Time & Confusion 8. Losing it All 9. Reclusion 10. Modern Age 11. Dismantle. Repair. 12. (*Fin) Silver Playlist: 1. The Resistance 2. Godspeed 3. Stranger Ways 4. Closer 5. The Unwinding Cable Car 6. Disappear 7. Hello Alone 8. Type Three 9. Hearing Voices 10. Cadence 11. Dance, Dance Christa Paffgen Bronze Playlist: 1. We Are Destroyer 2. Little Tyrants 3. Adelaide 4. (The Symphony of) Blase 5. A Day Late 6. Birds of Prey 7. The Art of War 8. Alexithymia 9. Orpheum 10. Harbinger I found that tracks 1, 2, and 5 of any Anberlin record are particularly strong while tracks 7 and 9 are particularly weak. For instance, Little Tyrants is in my Bronze playlist but it's a Top 10 Anberlin song for me and Reclusion is in my Gold playlist but it's actually one of my least favorites on Cities. Also, without really trying to, my list actually ended up being very consistent with how I always rank the albums. Cities and Lowborn are represented the most while New Surrender and Blueprints are represented the least.
Oh man.......I can't chose between the three playlists. You have all my favorites mixed up haha. Feel Goo D Drag is missing though.....that has to be a mistake.
Both NS and NTFP Feel Goo D Drags would have been my next choices in the Track 5 and Track 8 slots. Pretty strong slots. You make your playlists, bruh!
For some reason, I still think that cds give the best quality when listening in a car, so I have my car full of mixes. I try to always mix the songs up to not have a lot from one album back to back and make them flow into each other. Here is my Anberlin Mix: Little Tyrants Paperthin Hymn Glass to the Arson The Art of War Self-Starter A Whisper & a Clamor Other Side (The Symphony of) Blasé The Unwinding Cable Car We Are Destroyer Pray Tell Disappear Type Three Alexithymia The Haunting Reclusion The Resistance Godspeed The Feel Good Drag Dismantle. Repair. (*Fin) The only way to end any Anberlin mix. Also LT is the perfect opener, 4 drum stick clicks and then off into the energy!
I posted the mix I currently have in my car right now lol, for your system I'll need to put some more thought into it. Also, shame for leaving out the Feel Goo.
Gold Playlist: 1. Never Take Friendship Personal 2. Little Tyrants 3. Stranger Ways 4. A Whisper & a Clamor 5. The Unwinding Cable Car 6. Pray Tell 7. The Art of War 8. Type Three 9. Reclusion 10. Haight Street 11. Dance, Dance Christa Päffgen 12. (*Fin) Silver Playlist: 1. The Resistance 2. Paperthin Hymn 3. Take Me (As You Found Me) 4. Someone Anyone 5. Feel Good Drag 6. Disappear 7. Desires 8. Alexithymia 9. Orpheum 10. Inevitable 11. Dismantle. Repair. 12. Miserabile Visu (Ex Malo Bonum) Bronze Playlist: 1. Self-Starter 2. Breaking 3. Change the World (Lost Ones) 4. (The Symphony of) Blasé 5. A Day Late 6. The Runaways 7. Autobahn 8. Losing It All 9. Down 10. Cadance This was fun. I had a hard time picking for number 4, 6 and 9. I also think that the last songs on the last two or three albums are a little boring.
I like the playlist idea, I’ll make one later when I have some time. But I just wanted to say up until the cities bracket I always thought the lyrics in Dismantle were “talked about life, got death in your family.” I was thrilled to realize I was wrong haha
Wow. Until reading this I had no idea that ISN'T the lyric. I never thought it seemed out of place though.
It blew my mind! I didn’t think it seemed particularly out of place but something about it felt off to me, like I knew I was mis-hearing but never bothered to look it up. Also i liked the listing in the actual lyric haha
