Unstable Other Side Self-Starter (too hard of a choice, but this is a perfect opener) Modern Age Orpheum Little Tyrants Innocent Desires
Type Three potentially losing in this round makes me really sad. It's crushing that not everybody feels the same way about your favorite song(s) on an album lol. I feel like this album will have the most divided favorite song list
It really is incredible how strong this album is after New Surrender and Dark is the Way were both relative disappointments.
I didn't expect it for sure. My exception for them after NS and DisW was for them to keep putting out albums with only few great songs on them but never reach the City/NTFP days again. This album was such a treat.
When you read interviews with the band about NS it sounds like they had a lot of pressure from the new label, didn't get to fully do the album they wanted. DitW has some moments that point to the next album (Art of War wouldn't sound out of place on Vital). But agreed, Vital/Devotion is amazing. I actually didn't even get into Vital when it came out and waited til the Devotion release. What a great surprise that was
Unstable Other Side Self-Starter Modern Age Someone Anyone Little Tyrants Said Too Much Dead American Some tough ones this round!
Modern age is my favorite, so it would have my vote, but yea I was disappointed when I saw Type Three match with it, it’s a top 4-5 song on the album for me. “I look to heaven...cursed with disbelief” is one of my favorite moments.
Commentary on this round because I'm bored: I'm a little surprised at how many people voted for No Love to Speak. It's definitely solid, but it's never stood out much to me. The match up between Other Side and City Electric was, as they say, over before it ever began. One of the few match ups in the entire thread where I was sure it'd be blow out. Another unfortunate matchup between an opener and closer. But the choice is clear to me. I think Self-Starter is as good an opener as Godspeed was and Godspeed is one of my favorite openers of all-time. Hate that Type Three is biting it so early. But I'd hate it if Modern Age was biting it so early too. Worst match up since the Cities bracket by far. Orpheum beating Someone Anyone is the only genuine surprise of this round for me. Pleasantly surprised, although I wouldn't have cared much either way. Surprised Intentions even got four votes, but I'm glad cause it owns. It's just against Little Tyrants so what are you going to do. Innocent is marginally better than Said Too Much. Glad it won. Desires is my least favorite on Vital, but it's a testimony to the strength of the album that I wouldn't be that mad if it went all the way. Dead American is HUGE though. Wish it got more than two votes.
This discog voting has made it apparent that I am missing all of their B-sides from all of their albums. Anyone know of a place to get all of them from? PM me if possible, thanks in advance.
Thank y’all for your patience. Busy day today. But onwards we go! Unstable: 10 No Love To Speak: 6 Other Side: 16 City Electric: 0 God, Drugs, & Sex: 5 Self Starter: 11 Type Three: 6 Modern Age: 10 Someone Anyone: 7 Orpheum: 9 Little Tyrants: 12 Intentions: 4 Innocent: 10 Said Too Much: 6 Dead American: 3 Desires: 13 Next round! Unstable Vs. Other Side Self Starter Vs. Modern Age Orpheum Vs. Little Tyrants Innocent Vs. Desires Begin!
I find NLTS’s chorus really elegant and captivating, so that’s why I’d have voted for it probably. I’m surprised Orpheum won too but only bc SA won the last round, I think orpheum is way better. Can we all agree the transition into the chorus on SA is painfully awkward?
Elegant is a good way of putting it. That song really has grown on me a lot. And are you talking about the pre-chorus to SA or the guitar part bridging the pre-chorus to the chorus? I've never considered either one being awkward myself.
Other Side Self-Starter Little Tyrants Innocent Voting against Modern Age twice feels like a sin, but it simply had to be done.
