The moment I read this, a picture of Jim Halpert flashed in my mind, then I was like wait that's not right, who's Richard Alpert? Then I remembered and yelled along with you! This is also one of the most unnecessary comments I've ever typed and I realize that now.

Haha, I almost didn't but I still want to vote for the least bad songs. I don't want Closer actually getting through a round.

 

I’d be down for an Office/Lost crossover. In fact, I think they did something like that for the Emmys several years ago haha.

I was super late to the Office and binged it all this year. Didn't expect it to be such dark humor and funny for a basic cable show. I want a Michael and Dwight cross over with It's Always Sunny.

Impossible vs. Closer was the toughest one for me, followed by You Belong Here vs. Depraved.

The Art Of War is my favorite song on the album and probably in my top 10 Anberlin songs.

Other than their debut album, this is probably the album of theirs that I return to the least ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

A friend of mine who lives in Hawaii got the message and said he had a mini panic attack at work. Another friend got there today for vacation and was greeted with the message.

Preach, man. These people are insane, Closer is fantastic.
Disagree with Down’s matchup though. Down is top tier anberlin, Take Me is boring as all hell imo.

also I’d like to die is top tier as well. This is all wrong.

The thing about Down is, I like it a whole lot, but there's at least four Anberlin ballads I love more (Cable Car, Type Three, Atonement, Blase) and I can't help but compare it to those. Take Me used to be the most boring Anberlin song to me, but somewhere along the way I grew to love it.

None of those matchups should be the blow outs they are though.

Agreed but this round even more so! Like, all of these matchups seemed even to me, and then they're basically all complete blow outs. Never would have guessed Down, Depraved, I'd Like to Die, Hell or High Water, and Closer would all have 2 votes. I mean, I only voted for Closer of those songs but still.

 

My only rationalization is everyone has the same internal battle but there’s a part of each winner tipping everyone in its favor. Or at least that’s what I’m telling myself.

 

Sadly I don’t think that’s how the brackets work - the initial draw is the key moment. I often find by the final I’m picking between two songs that aren’t among my favourites. Yes, there’s an element of truth in what you are saying - sometimes there’s a winner that is going to win but where there are three of four top tier songs (like what happened with a couple of these Anberlin albums) the outcome can surprise.

Where my bracket enjoyment comes is when people share reasons, memories, emotions regarding the songs they’ve voted for. That’s the true success of a bracket - which is why this Anberlin one has been so successful. Lots of discussion. I’m thankful for you for taking your time to organise. I’ve loved relistening to the albums. I’ve basically been on a huge Anberlin binge for two weeks now!

 

I agree with basically everything you said, but in my post i meant there’s a part about each individual matchup’s winner that draws most of the votes in (i.e. song A Vs song B are both great but there’s something about A that everyone particularly likes so it dominates)

But yea, i think the discussion has been really good. I’ve been listening to these records a lot since we started as well and I’m not even voting.
