This is my least favorite Anberlin record but it has some hidden gems. It'll be interesting to see if any of them make it far!
Yes yes yes this bracket is sure to be interesting but will someone please like my pun before I inevitably draw more attention to it? Thank you.
It's always reminded me of something Maroon 5 would've written. Definitely the weakest ballad in their discography.
I’m pleasantly surprised by how much I’m enjoying revisiting this album. I haven’t heard some of these songs in years, and I’m digging them way more than I did back then.
I've found that over the years. It's not terrible. Some songs are decent. It just wasn't Cities and at the time, that left everyone feeling a bit deflated.
My thoughts: It's their box of chocolates album. Some is terrific. Some is good. One or two are pretty bleh. But every song is so different and you don't know what you're getting next. I think it's a blast to listen to for that reason, but it doesn't flow well. The last four songs especially just weird me out next to each other. Also, releasing "Disappear" first was a mistake in hindsight cause I think it fed into people's hopes that it would be Cities Pt. 2. That's what happened with me anyway.
I agree that releasing Disappear was a mistake but for different reasons. There was an interview where Stephen said something along the lines of wanting a more upbeat album with songs in the style of Paperthin Hymn (man, what a way to hype up your album by throwing that song title out there lol). Disappear and the word of Feel Good Drag being on there got me super hyped that it would be a faster paced album. Besides the opener (which is terrific), that was not the case at all
Agreed. Although I'd say it's a plenty energetic record overall, the lack of heaviness was disappointing.
