Missed the first round, but I'm re-listenting now and will be back shortly with my votes for round 2. I think all the right songs won the last round, though I would like to recognize how great both "Godspeed" and "Inevitable" are. "Godspeed" lost to what's probably the clear fan favorite, and "Inevitable" lost to my personal favorite from this record, though "Inevitable" would probably be my second favorite.
-Dismantle. Repair. -Alexithymia -(*Fin) -A Whisper & A Clamor Now that heavy hitters like Godspeed, Reclusion and Inevitable out of the way, this round was a lot easier. Had no idea anyone here made that page. Great job! I remember reading it after their final tour ended. I agree, I think it'll win it all and I'll probably vote for it most of the time. I would have been ok with (and voted for) Godspeed to win though. That would have been such an upset to the whole bracket since I'm pretty sure everyone is on the same page with *Fin winning.
Dismantle. Repair. There Is No Mathematics To Love and Loss – Musically "Alexithymia" is great, but as a matter of principle I can't vote for a song that uses the word "conversate" in its lyrics. (*Fin) – I don't have the love for (*Fin) that everyone else does, but "Adelaide" has little going for it other than being so damn catchy. A Whisper & A Clamor
Dismantle. Repair. Alexithymia (*Fin) The Unwinding Cable Car The last match up was hard. All the others were easy. Adelaide is the only song on this album I don’t really like. Blasphemy to many but it sticks out too much.
Dismantle. Repair. There Is No Mathematics To Love And Loss (the science-y matchup) (*Fin) The Unwinding Cable Car
I understand why Adelaide sticks out like a sore thumb to some people, but the tonal change between the end of Godspeed and the beginning of Adelaide is synonymous with the flow of this album to me. I can't imagine Cities without it.
Yep, don't understand the hate for Adelaide at all. It's wonderful and it just wouldn't be Cities without it.
I love (*Fin) but I don't think it's the best Anberlin song. Not sure I could definitively name *a* best Anberlin song... although Modern Age, Stranger Ways, and Other Side are up there just as far as (*Fin) for me. (*Fin) might be Stephen's finest lyrical work, and the instrumentation is great too, but I think, melodically, their songs got better with age. Obligatory "this is all my opinion and I don't expect others to agree" disclaimer.
Dismantle. Repair. (that sucked. I love Hello, Alone) Alexithymia Fin (though I also like Adelaide and think it gets unfairly hated on. Not enough to vote against fin though) A whisper & a clamor
Dismantle. Repair. There Is No Mathematics To Love And Loss ("There is algebra in gasoline..." I can't ever vote against this track.) (*Fin) A Whisper & A Clamor
i read this post and had a really trippy moment where i could've sworn it said something else earlier, but then remembered you'd defended the song previously and thought i must've misread earlier, and then scrolled up and saw the similar post. it was a really stressful 25 second haha
