There's a few good ones but if I were making a personal greatest hits, maybe only Glass would make the cut.
Yeah, I got into them with NTFP and then backtracked so I never got to experience this album as just their debut without anything else to compare it to. That would probably change my outlook if I had.
pretty much this, excited most my friends who did backtrack so to say loved blueprints. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ must be nice to have low standards ;)
The album just fine in any context. It’s not that good, but it’s not awful overall. Fairly standard debut.
Cadence: 13 We Dreamt In Heist: 2 Glass To The Arson: 7 Readyfuels: 8 we need one more for glass! i'm just repeating myself here but id put cadence, love song, glass, naive, and cold war on par with their best. i think cold war would fit in nicely on NTFP and glass on Cities.
oh man i love mathematics; i'd rather it replace whisper & clamor, i don't care for that song at all. though while i like adelaide, i think it would fit nicely on blueprints. perhaps those 2 can swap.
If I had the will-power, I'd quote a long-winded comment of mine in this thread about how A Whisper & a Clamor changed my life just to show how you've ruined my day. Joking, of course. But in all seriousness, that chorus is still unbeatable to me.
I actually got on board with NTFP too, but that album really isn't all that much different from Blueprints stylistically. It's just bigger and better written and more refined.
Blueprints is a fun debut that shows hints of what would come after. Its no where near as good as Cities or NTFP but I'd still take it over New Surrender or Dark is the Way any day.
is this band underrated? its weird talking about a band that had songs played all over radio and TV as being underrated but i really get the sense that our scene has really underestimated this band and its a real shame. theyve kinda fallen into that grouping with MCR and Thursday where everyone remembers "that one song" and they get lumped in with a lot of the shittier emo/alt rock bands of that era. at least Cities turning 10 this year gave them some good hindsight love
Yeah, definitely agreed about Thursday. I know a lot of people who are fans of post-hardcore who barely know their stuff, or if they do it’s only the first two albums. I feel like MCR still gets a lot of recognition but I guess it depends on who you ask. But returning to your main point, I definitely agree that Anberlin belongs in that category. Lots of people just know Feel Good Drag or a couple other songs.
up until ~2012 i just assumed everyone loved them as much as i did and i considered them one of the scene heavyweights, but I'm still bitter over the site's reception of lowborn and I'm realizing now just how underrated they really were/are, especially since our scene likes to reward the kind of progression and diversity anberlin showed.
Haven’t been participating in the bracket, but a few thoughts. Anberlin is the reason I discovered AP. I was looking for b-sides. I think there are songs on both NS and Dark that are better than anything off Blueprints, but I think Blueprints is a better album as a whole than either of them. I think, even now, Anberlin is/was a lot bigger than I ever realized up until recently. For a band that’s been gone three years they still have a hell of a lot of monthly listeners on Spotify. Even though there is a lot of music I like a lot more than Anberlin now, there will never be another musical artist that shaped and influenced the way I view art and listen to music than this band. Anyways, that is all. Fin.
Man, I love Lowborn. I wondered if it was last album bias at first but time has been so good to that album. It's an odd bird for sure, but it's the closest the band came to matching Cities for me. They needed an album where they just did whatever the heck they wanted and I'm so glad they were able to do it.
I also need to give Lowborn another chance. I wasn't too high in it when it came out. Brackets are the perfect reason to re listen.
From what I remember of my few listens of Lowborn, it had a great opener and then all slow burn softies except for that weird distorted song where Stephen kinda scream yelled the whole thing lol. I'll def give it a few more listens well before we get to that round though.
