I remember hearing Paperthin Hymn for the first time at 14. It was my gateway to what would soon become my favorite band of all time. The principle word that defines the song for me is "beautiful". There's plenty of music in the same genre that I'd categorize as pretty, but not to the same degree. The song just soars and aches in a unique way.
The guitar riff in that song is still just the best ever. It's up there with something like Switchfoot's Meant to Live, a total earworm riff 20 years later.
Cities still remains my favorite album from them and probably one of my favorite albums period. Fin is perfect.
