I saw them at a free show at my state fair last month. It was so strange only seeing 30 people there. Especially a couple years ago there shows were packed
When i caught them in England years back, I literally stood next to Nate (didn't know this at the time) for the whole set of the opener. We were both nodding along. It was only when Anberlin started playing that I realised who he was. Embarrassing. There's definitely going to be people turning up expecting Stephen. Equally embarrassing.
whoa, what state and was it advertised much? Even with Malty and their popularity waning, 30 people is wild. but yeah, this is coming to my city and I would only remotely consider it if Stephen was there and WW were not.
Getting the itch to do an Anberlin discog run. Really wish we had gotten 2 more EP's from that last lineup.
In good news: Blame me! Blame me! came on shuffle and my 5 year old daughter loved it and now it’s her new fav. super underrated track
I'll admit, part of it is definitely that I just saw the real Anberlin at FF with Stephen doing NTFP, and I imagine I don't need to encounter them again until a one-off Stephen Cities show.
Minimal desire to see Marty anberlin but it’s been a long time since I’ve seen Emery and it’s admittedly tempting for that alone
Man, I know there's nuance to band affiliations and one members views on whatever, but I feel like Seth from WW was already dropping some WILDLY problematic opinions like 5 years ago. I can't imagine that the political climate since then has produced much positive change. Edit: Sean -> Seth
Also, I really wish this band would stop being a nostalgia act. I'm not the biggest fan of Matty either, but I think I would at least give any new stuff a shot. We still have some of the main writers in the band and I wished they kept pushing forward.
This might sound harsh, but remember I'm coming from the standpoint of Anberlin previously being in a top 10 list of favorite bands for me: They've never been all that interesting instrumentally. If you put out an instrumental I hadn't heard before, it's hard for me to imagine hearing it and immediately thinking, "oh yeah that's Anberlin". Stephen was their most unique part. Joey occasionally wrote some good riffs, but that's about it for me.
