    I do not exist.

They must be making a lot of money to be pursuing re-records. I’m all for nostalgia, but this is definitely not the way I’d choose to go about it. Odd decision by a band that is just making odd decision after odd decision.

To be fair to what I know of Matty, his voice might suit the debut album more than the others? I don’t know.

    Just imagine it:

you join your favorite band and they let record your voice over the music you grew idolizing as a child. Like it’s legit rock n roll fantasy camp for Mary.

Mary did you know, that you would grow up to ruin this band?

i can't even blame him because the other 5 cornballs (i'm throwing steven in with them) are even more responsible for their band's legacy.

I would rather them just write new stuff then put Matty on their back catalogue. If they ever do this to Cities I'll make a point to avoid ever hearing it.

Not for me. Hope they're able to do things that creatively fulfill them.

It’s genuinely not hard to avoid - I’ve not heard a second of never take and I feel good about that.

But really actually though? Like, if Stephen joined MMF and re recorded one of their albums, I don't think I would really listen to that despite being a fan of him

Well MMF is a truly horrible band so that checks out

  16. They were solid back when they sounded like a heavier Chasing Victory but I haven't cared for a release of theirs in like 15 years at this point.

Now they're just one more band contributing to the endless Octanecore slop that has made the metalcore scene stale in recent years.

I listened to a clip of Aaron from Underoath talking about how annoying and hard it is to be labeled a "legacy act" where you write and record new music and then when you go play live, no one wants to hear it and they only want to hear your old stuff. So, on one hand, I get why Anberlin is doing what they are. Playing the old stuff, and re-recording it in order to keep their name on the top of new releases on Spotify is probably a profitable strategy. It just screams "I'm doing this because it's my job" and not "I'm doing this because I love playing/writing music", and while I'm sure I listen to a lot a lot of bands that feel that first sentiment, current Anberlin are the only band I can think of that are so blatant about it.

I’ve said it before but I’d care more if anyone in the band was disputing it or Stephen wasn’t onboard. I get they mislead people at the start. Or maybe things changed. But as someone said it’s easy enough to ignore. Maybe I’ll listen to it once or twice but if I want to hear those songs I’ll go back to the originals. I’d still go see them live. And I’d probably be excited to hear some new stuff. Seems like they’re all enjoying it, including Stephen doing his thing. Let them continue to make a living doing what they love. Wish I could.

Also though if they ever remove the originals I’ll riot. And yeah they should just ignore the people complaining instead of those responses they gave

I don't like this at all, but I will play devil's advocate: At some point, there's nothing wrong with your life's creative passion turning into a job. Beats digging ditches or going back to school.

Did nobody mention the reason they’re re-recording Readyfuels is because they’re adding it back into the live setlist? Same reason they did Nevertake, so people get a preview of what they can expect from the live show. I get that the band fucked up the transition plan and people around here just don’t like Matty as a vocalist, but the level of handwringing over purely additive career moves is absolutely bizarre to me. Just don’t listen.

Absolutely, and I'm like you, if I could do my passion as my job, I'd figure out a way to do it, and if an opportunity like the one they had presented itself, I would 100% take it.

I also do not envy people who have to pretend like their job is their passion. People balk at sports players who basically say, yeah, I do this because I'm good at it, but it isn't my favorite thing in the world. In music it's really hard to accept when someone says, "yeah I'm doing this because I don't want to work at a coffee shop" and not "I'm doing this because I love my music so much and believe in it to the point where I'm willing to sacrifice everything to get it out there because I believe in it".

the big issue with comparing where underoath is in 2025 to where anberlin is in 2025 is that underoath's post-reunion output has been very hit or miss. they kind of are stuck being a legacy act since they can't seem to make anything better than their old albums. anberlin's post-reunion output was some of the best stuff they've ever done. to throw that all away to be a karaoke legacy act is such a blatant lame move.
