this was how i listened before Devotion was announced - the standard 11 songs, then Said Too Much, No Love to Speak, Safe Here, and Unstable. but that album meant a lot to me when it released so i generally put those four bonus tracks on par with the rest of the 11 songs, so adding the three new songs and integrating them into the tracklist felt cool to me (i do still love the 11 track standard configuration though, and give it a spin from time to time when i play my vinyl copy of Vital from the boxset).
Kinda same. Forgot how I got those tracks. IDK if all of those 4 were official released? I feel like it was Mediafire downloads from AP or something. The 3 NEW tracks I honestly never gave too many listens, which is a shame. I do love the first 4 b-sides.
Unstable was an iTunes bonus track, Said Too Much and No Love to Speak were Best Buy bonus tracks, and Safe Here was on Australian CDs but i think there was also a link on Facebook to download it for free?
Does anyone remember the live album they released very briefly on iTunes and then buried because ... I want to say because it sounded terrible? This was like 2011 or 2012.
What if Marty fronted every band? What if there was a plug in to hear Marty’s vocals over all music. That would truly be GOATED
ive never listened to neither of them either. i dropped off after dark is the way or whatever it was called.
This just made me realize DITW existing may have done a disservice to people’s willingness to check out Vital.
do check out Vital if you haven't, especially if you miss the vibrancy and songwriting style of those first three albums (they reteamed with Aaron Sprinkle again to make it, so anticipation was high), albeit with a more mature edge. it deserves the notoriety that NTFP and Cities get in discussing their best work, but gets overlooked because of the reception to NS and DITW (and what i assume was a slight unwillingness by the label to promote it, although i could be wrong since it did debut at 16 on the Billboard 200).
I had been a casual fan finding them in high school and only knowing the singles from NTFP and Cities and Feel Good Drag. I listened to a couple of songs from DITW from that and didn't really both with full album listens. It wasn't until Vital came out that I decided to actually listen to the whole album and it absolutely blew me away. My favorite album of theirs for sure. That sparked me to go back and listen to all of their stuff and it the rest is history. Other Side is a top 10 song in my life, beyond just Anberlin.
I somehow ended up with hand-written lyrics from Stephen for Modern Age- someone sold me their Vital canvas and lyrics years ago...love that song.
